Glucose Challenge Test (the one hour test)
Ok, last Thursday I went for my glucose test. This wasn't my first time taking it because since it runs in my family (my father is a border-line diabetic), my dr. sent me for it very early for both pregnancies. I had the Sunkist one, which was nasty, but doable.
Since my dr doesn't do it in her office, I had to go to the lab. So I get there at 6:50AM and they open at 7. I was nauseous to begin with because it was so darn muggy that day and they didn't have the a/c on in the lab. They take my fasting blood right away, give me the drink and the clock starts ticking. I knew right away that this wasn't going to be a good day because the drink wasn't going down that easy. But I sit there and read my magazine and wait for 8:25 to come.
50 minutes into it, I start getting really nauseous and clammy and feel like I'm going to vomit and/or pass out (actually both). So they bring me in the back, give me cold compresses and put the fan on me. Meanwhile the baccala girl decides to try and take the blood out of my other arm, since the time is almost up. Usually I have nice plump juicy veins and they have no problem getting them, but this one had a hard time and is telling me to 'pump your fist'. UM, HELLO LADY, I'M GOING TO FALL ON THE FLOOR IN A MINUTE PASSING OUT, I CAN'T MAKE A FIST, but she jabs me and takes me blood just as I almost lose it.
So they drag/carry (don't know how
) into the next room and have me lay down and put compresses on my neck and face, plus give me oj. I had to stay for 45 minutes until I felt somewhat normal again. Finally I left and went next door to get an egg sandwich and some more oj.
Fast forward to yesterday (I know, I'm off in tangentville again
). I get a call from my dr telling me that my fasting blood test came back elevated, so I'm like 'great, that means I have to take the 3 hour test?' and she said no, the glucose came back fine, it was the fasting that was elevated!!!
So, I have to go back to the lab on Thursday and give them some more of my precious blood after fasting. I would think that if anything would come back elevated, it would have been the glucose one because that crap was nasty!!! Not to mention the girl gave me the wrong size bottle and I almost drank more then I needed to!!!!
Did this happen to anybody else???
