Glucose test

I am so hungry and have to wait about another hour before I begin my glucose test! I haven't eaten since 10PM last night, and now I am getting very hungry since I have been up since 4:30AM.

Oh I know all too well how that felt!! I hope everything went ok and you ran right to the store to get something to eat afterwards!!!

Well, I ended up waiting an hour before I was able to start and sat there for a total of 2 hours. The baby was not happy about me not eating and started going crazy. The guy next to me probably thought my baby was going to crawl out of my belly right then and there.

It wasn't that bad and I have faith that I won't be going back for the 3 hour test!

Oh I hope you don't have to go for the 3 hour!! Trust me, the one hour was bad enough!!!! When I went for my test, there was a deli next door (note to Jennbaby for when your time comes next year -- I went to the Quest Lab on Eliot) and I would hightail it out of the lab and RUN into the deli and grab an oj and order an egg and cheese on a roll and gavone it down in my car!!!

I go for my test in a few weeks. My dr told me I can eat before I go for the test.

You're lucky Sue!! I had to fast each and every time!! Even for my post-partum 2 hour glucose test, I had to fast!! I don't know how they expect anyone, especially a pregnant woman, to be able to take that on an empty stomach!!!

I am going to call the lab the day before I go to ask them. If I have to fast, it will be tough. I am always so hungry when I wake up in the morning.

Do you still have to drink the sugar drink? Or are they just doing a random glucose test?

I am not sure. Whenever I have to get bloodwork done, they send me to a lab.
I don't have to go for like 2 1/2 weeks.
I will call the day before to find out.
I think I have to drink the liquid but I'm not sure. I'm not looking forward to it because I heard the drink is carbonated and that will give me a bad stomach ache. I don't drink soda for that reason.

It is a little carbonated, but not too bad! To be honest, I was so hungry at that point, I didn't care. I also very rarely will drink soda, because it is so sweet, but to me today, it tasted wonderful!

I also went to a lab (Quest) and they gave me this orange carbonated sugar drink -- it tasted like Sunkist -- and I HATE soda!! I never drink soda (only 7 UP or Gingerale), so to drink that crap at 7 in the morning, was a big feat!!!!

Sue, if you have to fast, bring something to eat IMMEDIATELY after you finish with the blood!!! I almost passed out on my one hour and my 3 hour tests, and I had to run to get something to eat as soon as it was done. I still felt yucky, but the food helped a lot!!

Thanks. I will definately bring something if I have to fast. I don't want to get light-headed from not eating.

Sue,

Thats so strange to me that u can eat before that test.
I dont understand how they could get accurate results after U have food in your system.
Just never heard of anyone taking any type of glucose test and allowed to eat..
Good luck though to you though when u take it..

I am going to call the lab the day before to see if I can eat. I would be annoyed if I ate and went all the way there and they told me to come back another day.
