Glycolic peel vs. microdermabrasion

Glycolic peel vs. microdermabrasion

What is the difference between the two? I have sensitive skin, bumps on my forehead that are a bit red but not too noticable, roseacea on my cheeks but not really bad (just a tiny bit red) and some red marks that are scars from a bad breakout last year (post effects of my surgery and side effects of the meds I take for my crohn's). Would either of these work? My dermatologist is good but didn't give me a definitive answer for each. I saw the precriptives microdermabrasion kit in macy's but it doesn't seem like much. I don't want to look like i have a mask on when my wedding becasue of my bumps and redness. Of course I'll use makeup that day but I just want my face to look better over all (ie: even skin tone and get rid of the bumps).

Can anyone tell me their results of each if they had ti done and I'll go back and talk to my dermatologist more to see what would be better for me. Thanks

Edited because I can't spell 'glycolic' right...lol

Maribelle, you and I think alike!!! I have been wanting to do this just to refresh my skin, a few year ago I had the chemical peel, I was supposed to notice results immediately, which I didnt, it was 80 bucks a pop, so I didnt go back for more sessions, I dont know what the difference is between the two, but I am going to buy the prescriptives and see, Ive read good things about it from people who have used it.
I also found an at home chemical peel that is by VITA K,its asy its avalibale in drug stores, the web site is www.woodridgelab.com, I havent checked it out yet, the number the give is 1888 766 7331
I know that dermatologists do them and they do a good job, HOWEVER, a friend of mine used to work at a spa/ salon, now shes a stay at home mom, but she did the peels all of the time and they were much cheaper than a dermatologist, just an option to check out.Hope this helps!!!

i have had 2 chemical peels. they are wonderful. you will not notice a difference immediately, and you have to have more than one to see results. i am very happy with my results. i have rosacea and the creams and oral medications did not work as well.

yeah, I only went once, I was told Id see results immediately, I dont have rosacea, just wnated my skin to look more refreshed, years of tanning did me no favors and I feel its dulled my skin. My skin is just there, maybe I had unrealsitic expectations..wouldnt surpris eme,I usually do!!
I have heard great things about the chemical peels though.

Re: Gyclolic peel vs. microdermabrasion

I did microdermabrasion and liked it. I noticed a difference right away. My skin looked fresher and it really gets rid of dead skin. I've had every skin procedure (intense dermabrasion, different kinds of laser surgery, silicon injections, etc)
The one thing you have to realize is that any procedure that takes 15 minutes is going to have temporary benefits. I think my skin looked better for about 2 weeks and I used a 10% glycolic acid after the microdermabrasion to keep dead skin from building up again.

I'd do a few before my wedding or engagement photos. Otherwise I think it is a bit expensive (mine was $150 at Skinklinic in NYC) for minimal results.

Has anyone used any of the new at home kits? I am wondering if they might have a similar effect at a much lower cost?

Hey Alicia...let me know about the Prescriptives stuff. I went to Macy's the other day and saw it in their booth but the girl was no where to be found so I couldn't ask any questions.

I have to talk to my derm again - get a definitive answer about the difference and which can help more.

I'll take a look at that website too...and maybe check out some places in the city that do these sort of things...the place by my house, the girl is nice and licensed but I think that in the city they might be more experienced?

Also I'm going to look at the Avon website. I think Anew has something that I might want to use.

I'll let ya know too..Thanks!

Jlm..thanks for the advice. I was told by the girl that owns the spa near my apt that I would have to come in for 4 appt's and that it's about $150 for all of that (which sounds like a good deal??) and to go in around January. That's for the glycolic stuff.
I forget what they use....starts with an M....and I saw she has gels for sensitive and normal skin types too.

I've gotten two glycolic chemical peels. One at 30% and one at 50%. It didn't do anything, but I should have then gone on to doing them at 70%. You need to do it a few times to get results.
