I am so upset that my maternity leave/vacation is over and that I have to go back to work on Thursday. I just can't imagine not spending all day with her.
I'm lucky though because my mom is going to watch her and we're going to meet a couple of times a week for lunch. So at least I'll get to see Kiera during the day for a little bit.
Did anyone else get depressed over going back to work? Did it take you a long time to get back into the swing of it?

Re: Going back to work on Thursday
I remember the dread of having to go back to work. The anticipation is worse than the actual separation. I was a mess a few days before going back, and the morning of, I couldn't even look at my daughter, the car ride to work was HORRIBLE, but as soon as I got back into the swing of things the day flew by and I was so busy that before I knew it I was back home again. Are you going back full time? Have you done some trial runs with your Mom? The month before I went back I would leave my daughter witgh my Mom for a few hrs each week, this made it easier on all if us! Good luck, at least you have your Mom watching her, there is notihing like a family member watching your kids!!

Re: Going back to work on Thursday
I am going back at the end of the month. I too am leaving my daughter with my mom. I keep telling myself it won't be so bad because I am a teacher and it'll be the summer in no time. It doesn't make it easy. I love spending the day with Emily. I couldn't imagine not being with her all day. But, I am fortunate to have family looking after her. If I didn't have my mother and MIL I'd be a lot worse off. Hang in there. The girls at work say before you know it you'll have a work routine and you'll feel better. I hope that is true.

Re: Going back to work on Thursday
It definitely makes it easier that she's going to Mom's (I know it did for me for ease of mind, etc.,) but nothing will bring back these precious moments.
I felt so at peace when I was home; like THAT was where I was supposed to be. My house never ran so efficiently even though it was an 'adjustment' period when she first came home. Now everything is rush-rush and I never feel like I have enough time with her. I keep telling myself/trying to sell myself on the idea that I'm working this hard for her benefit. To make sure she has a decent roof over her head, enough food/etc. She'll never go without and school/college is a biggie for me. Life on Long Island is so hard....there is no way even if I cut out every guilty pleasure and broke it down to basics that I could be a SAHM.
It's tough being a L.I. Mom

Re: Going back to work on Thursday
It is HARD those first few weeks. Some things that really help are a) know upfront that going back to work will stink and you will be sad b)that your baby is okay and will be well cared for c) start mid-week. Every book I read on the subject says that a mid-week start is the best for a new mom going back to work.
I was really depressed over it and honestly, I still get upset but I know that right now one salary is just not enough for us. I try to remember that I work for a reason...to pay for a home for my daughter to live in. And no amount of cutting back will help me be a SAHM, unless we cut out things like electric and food and insurance- which we cannot do, of course.
It does get easier once you get into a routine though. And heck, maybe your mom will even do some laundry for you
