My fiance and I have been engaged for about a month now and we have been checking out various halls to book our wedding reception for July 2009. So far, we have seen Villa Lombardi's, The North Ritz Club, The Venetian, The Fountainhead, and we have an appointment to see El Caribe tonight. I never realized what a difficult decision this was going to be for us. My fiance and I both really loved Villa Lombardi's, but it is a bit far from our homes (we live in Queens) and I am concerned that the room may be a little tight for our 250+ wedding. We loved the ballroom and cocktail hour room at Fountainhead, but we have never been to a wedding there or really ever heard anything about it from anyone, plus they wont let us taste the food until we book and give them a 500$ deposit. We are going to see the El Caribe tonight because we have heard that they put on extravagant weddings, have beautiful rooms and delicious food. We have a huge a family and tons of friends and we are constantly going to weddings at the same places. It is so important to us to find some place that we can feel like is our own and that our guests don't have the menu memorized already, but we don't want to just take an uninformed leap of faith and book a place that we have never heard of. So I am posting with the hopes that some of the wonderful brides to be here can help us out. Has anyone ever been to or booked their own wedding at Villa Lombardi's, The Fountainhead or El Caribe???? Please let me know your experiences. Thank you!!!!

Re: Going crazy looking for a hall!
Well 1st off, congrats on the engagement and welcome to the site!!!
I totally hear ya on having the wedding at a hall that friends and fam havent been to... That was my main conern also! I live in the Bronx so I have been to plenty of weddings down in New Rochelle....
My fiance's bro was married at Fountainhead yrs ago and said it was amazing. People rave about the food! I have only heard good things about it so I wouldnt worry about the tasting so much! I also have a friend that is getting married there in Sept! They are very very Italian so right there, that has to tell you that the place has great food
Use the search box to find reviews on your halls! Type in the name of 1 and then search within the board 'the brides review' You should find plenty
I have never heard of Fountainhead so I'm not much help.
One of the best weddings I've been to was at the Grand Prospect Hall...maybe they're a possibility? What about the de Seversky center at NYIT in Westbury? Absolutely beautiful

Re: Going crazy looking for a hall!
Thanks for the help, I love this site already! Food is really a MAJOR issue for us. Our Italian families can be quite critical when it comes to the food served at weddings and I swear I have nightmares of people saying 'Il mangiare fa schiffo' (the food is disgusting). So, I am very glad to hear that people rave about the food there because we LOVED that room at Fountainhead!!!!! Congratulations on your engamenet as well
I heard wonderful things about fountain head ... FHs friends sister just got married there and everyone sadi how great everything was ... I also went to get a quote from them and to look at the place ... it was nice but I didnt like how the entrance was a lil small right next to a gas station and a shopping mall and we went right passed it at first ... but the place looked very nice inside!

Re: Going crazy looking for a hall!
I have another suggestion for you... Glen Island Harbor Club... I have personally worked there and can tell you the place is gorgeous, setting is beautiful, and the food is out of this world! And you get a ton of food... It's unimaginable I swear
I believe its in the same price range as fountainhead sooo
I would have had my wedding at glen island, but its too pricey for us

My cousin is getting married at Glen Island next May so we kind of just skipped over it, but it may be worth a look. Thanks.

I'm getting married at Villa Lombardis and Ilove it! I can't wait for my wedding day! I don't know about the other places you mentioned but I think you should go with Villa. I am a little biased though

I am not biased. Villa Lombardi's is truly the best!
