Going dress shopping for the first time... help!

Ok, so I've been engaged for almost a year and have yet to go into one dress shop - shocking, I know!! Anyway, next weekend Mom and I are going to start and I'm very excited. Where would you suggest starting out (preferrably in Nassau County)?

Thanks!
Sandy

David's Bridal was my first stop, which was a good experience because they have tons of dresses in every size. At most upscale shops, they have just one sample, which unless you are sample size takes a bit of imagination to get an opinion on. So, my feeling is go to a place like David's to try on the different styles (a-line, ball gown, strapless, sleeves, etc.) and figure out what shapes of dresses are most flattering -- try them all you never know what will work. Then you can go to other shops looking for the best fabric or beading or other details knowing what a dress that fits in the same style will look like.

Sorry I can't really help, I don't know any NY dress shops, but I just wanted to remind you to bring a strapless bra and some heels. Good luck!

I have to fourth Lillette's! I wish I went there first!
I also went to David's first for the same reasons as Valenia. I guess it was helpful, but I don't think it was necessary. Even if you can't get the back of the dress closed up, as long as you can still get the dress on your body you can get a pretty good idea of what the dress will look like on you.

The Wedding Salon of Manhasset, it is a wonderful place that really makes you feel like 'a bride.' I believe prices start at around $2300.

Sammik you had a good experience at th Bridal Garden in Behtpage? I was very disapointed with them. A cuple of years ago I was in my friende wedding we all got our dresses there after I ordered mine and Paid for it, I was having a fitting and the lady says to me All these dresses are made for the 5'7 all american girl. What because im 4'10 and not a size 2 im not the all american girl she made me feel ugly and uncomfortable. I walked out almost in tears. I would think as a bussiness owner you would not want to hurt someones feelings? Also the dress was my favorite dress it was plum and was not at all reveling. I would definey not recomend them

If you can go to Brooklyn, I recommend Kleinfelds.
