Going shopping for MY OWN shower gifts...

OK is this weird, My Mom called and gave me her CC info and told me to buy wnatever I wanted/needed for my shower from her and my Dad. My Mom doesn't drive, isn't very computer literate (other than her poker games, lol) and is always dependant on my sister to get things like this done. My sister is the worst person to depend on because she leaves everything forthe very last minute. I can bet anything that she'll go shopping for my shower the day before and then will have the nerve to be pissed because there is nothing left, crazy right. My Mom doesn't want to deal with the nonsense so she told me to go order what I want and have it shipped to her house. I didn't think that was so bad because it's not like I don't know what we're getting from people. Has anyone done this before or should I just wait to see if for once my darling sister comes through. Oh did I mention that she (my sister) told me 'if I get you a shower gift I can't give you a wedding gift, so decide which one you would rather have' . I also had to order my own shower favors because she never got around to doing it, can't you tell how happy she is for me

I know exactly where you are coming from! My mom knows that my sister would never do it, so she gave me money she got from my sister and asked me to go buy my own gift for myself from my sister for my shower. So off I went to Fortunoff and bought my bedding set and my toasting flutes. I also had to do the same for my brother. He wanted to get me something for my shower but said he “had no time” to buy me something so gave me money and again I bought my cake cutting knife and server for myself. And on top of all this, I had to go with my mom to order the favors, wishing well, chair and umbrella (my sister/MOH should have done that) and I had to buy my own invitations and write them all out myself!! Otherwise, it would have never gotten done. And then.....(here’s the kicker) The day of my shower, my sister was supposed to get to the restaurant early with balloons and decorations from party city to decorate, she decides she wants to stay in bed all morning and then get her nails done so she has no time. So my mom asks ME to do it since we had family coming from Jersey and she had to cook all morning. So YES, I went to party city, bought a bunch of balloons and me and my FH and my dad went to the restaurant and I DECORATED FOR MY OWN SHOWER!!! Sorry to vent, but im still pissed at my sister/MOH. Lol

P.S. FMIL also lives in Puerto Rico and asked me and FH to buy whatever we want and she would give us the money when she came up here for my shower. So that’s another gift we had to buy for ourselves, so don’t feel bad!

so sorry! that is pretty crappy. i would be bummed too! just be like 'umm ma, i am not going to buy my own gifts' if you dont have the time to go out or try to learn how to do it online, than i cant help you.

if she still cant find a way, tel her to givey ou money but dont buy your own gift...

OK our sisters must be related, some how, they sound like the same person, I kid you not. Sh'e in my BP but I didn't ask her to be my MOH and as you see I have NO regrets about not having asked her. I'm sorta regretting asking her to be in my BP but ya gotta give sometimes, my Mom would probably have been really upset so I have to suck it up My sis is a real piece of work but Jess I'm sorry to say girlie ya might have me beat or we might be neck n neck. She also tells me that my shower is giving her SOooo much stress, I talked to my MOH and she hasn't done anything for thr shower, the one thing that she had to do was order the favors and she didn't , I did.

Ladies I'm sorry your dealing with this! Family be it yours or in-laws can truly be so insensitive.

It's hard but people are really showing me & FH who they are and who they are not throughout my engagement and wedding planning. To me nonaction and noninvolvement speak louder than words. In the case of your mother I do understand. It seems as though if she could she would do it independently. So I recommend thanking her for er cc and asking her what her limit is. Happy shopping! Thanks Kathy, I was a lil upset with my Mom but I understand her position and the fact that she wanted to get this done is more than my sister has attempted to do. So I think I might do a lil shopping today , hmmm I just realized that I could buy whatever I want, not necessarily something that was on my registry, this might not be so bad after all

i'd just do it.. how about you go with your mom and she can pick them out with you...

when i went to register... my mom was with me and it turned out that my china was on sale so she bought it right then and there... it was a good deal so how could i let that pass!!

even though my shower was a surprise i helped my mom along the way too with certain things..

dont stress - enjoy the time!
