Going to a wedding at The Carltun
Hi! So the FH & I have a wedding coming up at The Carltun, we rsvp'd cause we wanted to be there but now people are making me nervous about how much I should give as a gift because its an expensive venue. I had no idea! We only budgeted so much for weddings this year since we're saving for our wedding as well but I also don't want to look like im being cheap! Help! What would be an acceptable amount to give for the 2 of us?

So I might have an unpopular response here, but I don't think it's your responsibility to pay for where the bride and groom decide to have their wedding. IMO, the couple invited you to celebrate with them because they care about you and want you with them and shouldn't be expecting a gift in a certain price range. I would give whatever you both feel comfortable with. From what I've been hearing, I would say the norm is $200-$300 per couple.

I generally give $300 for the both of us. I think I'm in the minority on this, but if I know a wedding is at an exceptionally expensive place OR an exceptional amount of effort has gone into it, I'll give a little more. For example, an LIW bride style wedding I'd probably give $400 cause no one does bride like we do bride!!!

We usually give $300 no matter where the venue is. The only time we give a little more is if they are really close friends or family.

I don't give based on the venue. As another bride mentioned a guest should not feel compelled to pay for the choices of the bride and groom. I do however give more if its a close friend or relative. For regular friends weddings we give $350. As far as our gifts from guests we got $350 per couple from pretty much all our friends so I think that's pretty standard for a friend gift.

We always give $300 for the two of us as a standard and would consider giving more if they were very close family or friends.

I agree with most of the ladies on here. We usually do $300 or more depending on if it's family or friends. As a funny side bar, it's hilarious to have this conversation with people out of the tristate area. I shared an office with a guy from a small town in the midwest who said he's never given more than $75 at a wedding. LI and the northeast in general is so damn expensive!

for us it really depeneds on the relationship of the couple... if they are really close family we give much more but if its friends or anyone else we typically give about 300-400 as a couple

I was just there in June for my gf's wedding, and it was a beautiful one..food was delicious and service was amazing!! I usually go by how close I am, and how much I know plates are (Fri & Sun are less than a Sat wedding). She got married on a Sat, so we gave her $500, but again I'm close with her so I gave her more than usual. If it's a Fri/Sun wedding I usually give $250-300, for a Sat wedding I usually give $300-$400 all pending on how close I am with the couple, then my envelope goes up because I know it will returned. Siblings are an exception..cost is not an option, we gave his brother $1,500 last year. This is just my personal viewWelcome New Vendors
