I almost burned down her reception!!!!!



Ok, I forgot to add this earlier this week...but it's a funny and not so funny story.

Background: My dad is a vol. firefighter and so if my FH (as well as both cops). I've come to grips that I am marrying my father but I won't admit that I am BECOMING my mother. At a fire dept. function my mother somehow lit one of the tables on fire with a votive candle. It was funny and all the guys got the fire out, but still...

Ok, so after I give my speech as MOH, I sit down at the table. I had my speech in an envelope and it was crowded at our table. So I throw it on the table and a couple of minutes go by.

FH turns to me and says, I smell something buring. My dad says, I wonder if they burned something. Another minute goes by... FH says... it REALLY smells like something is on fire. We look down...

YEP, the envelope was starting to burn!!!! OH MY GOD...I would have been the worst MOH ever.

I conviently forgot to add that to my post earlier this week.

Moral of the story? Don't invite me to your weddings!!!!!!

Wow, that is pretty funny!! Esp since your mom did something like it too! Good thing it didn't burn before your speech!!! Sounds like it's a good thing you've got firefighters in the family!!!

Fire Chiefs daughter here.. and I'm sitting in my office three weeks ago and I smelled something 'smoldering' (specific I know.. but follow along ) So I ask our Event Coordinator to come in and she's like 'Yeah, I smell something burning too.. I better take my cell phone out of here!'.. well.. she picks up her phone and it was her PHONE that was on fire She had placed it in the cradle of our scan gun charger and sure enough, the contact part on the cell met with the contact part of the charger.. and the rest is history!!! No huge flames or anything.. but smoke everywhere! Glad to know I was protected in that office.. no alarms went off or anything! Nice security system!

OMG leese, I can't believe you forgot to tell us this sooner! It is a good thing you have those firefighters!!!

I have one better...My cousin's wedding in 03, I was the winner of the centerpieces (beautiful tall calla's)...Well the waiter came over to get them out of the vase for me & wrap them in some type of paper....I guess the waiter forgot that there were votives on the table & placed the paper wrapping into the burning candle...The entire tablecloth lite up w/fire!!
