going to metropolitain for a 2nd time...

...with my mom and his mom. I was excited about it but not anymore...I thought this was the place for us but I am second guessing it now...Maybe today will help me make my mind up.

How did you girls know your RH was the one for you? Were you confused?

Re: going to metropolitain for a 2nd time...

We went to about 15 RHs and JT was the LAST one we saw. When we walked out we both KNEW it was the place.
To me, the RH is like your FH...you just KNOW he's the one!

Re: going to metropolitain for a 2nd time...

we went to 3 places and were set on venetian yacht club and then we checked out one more,. flowerfield. we both knew we had loved it there from a wedding we had just been to a few months prior.
we went in, met with the banquet manager, got some pricing and then as we BS'ed fh stared at me like a child in a toy store who is begging for a toy...he wanted this place so bad!
FH got the feeling lol.....so we booked them the next day.
we both came home from there super excited....if you dont feel that excitement and the place just doesnt do it for you then maybe you should keep looking?

well it kinda just hits you.. the RH we ended up choosing was the 3rd one we saw. The hall was really nice and i liked the fact that while we were waiting they had a bunch of refereshments for us there.. and the place seemed very classy. When we sat w /the BM and he was mentioning everything we were gonna get and then the price i became soooooooooooo excited! I visited like, 5 other RH's after that but we kinda compared all the other ones after that to the one that 'set the bar'...

ours was the first one we actually went to see, the others we saw were just because of showcases. we had seen it online about two months before and knew it was the one for us, you kind of just know.

Re: going to metropolitain for a 2nd time...

We visited 6 RHs in two weeks.

1. Milleridge Carriage House - It had the 'look' we were going for... but it seemed too small and it didn't seem to give us enough choices... plus there was a bathroom a little too close to the guests for my taste so that was out.

2. Westbury Manor - We LOVED the Westbury Manor. It's pretty it doesn't have that 'wedding' feel. They treated us wonderfully even though we were just there for a walk-through. But like Alyssa I was uncomfortable that they made an appointment with us while guests were there for a wedding. The guests were coming in and we were sitting in the lobby in our t-shirts and jeans. It wouldn't bother me at MY wedding, but we saw the bride come in, and I couldn't help but feel it may have bothered HER. The menu was great... the price was OK, but we were limited to the time we could have a wedding because I have a couple of guests in wheelchairs so we had to have a Saturday afternoon wedding so the whole thing could be downstairs. I wanted to be able to schedule my wedding without any limitations put on my by the RH (I wanted it to be my choice) so ultimately, they were out.

3. Chateau Briand - On a whim since it's so close to the WM we dropped by the Chateau Briand for a quote. Dawn was wonderful, the menu was good the price was good... but it's a little too modern for our taste, plus it was FREEZING in there that day and they didn't have the garden complete so we couldn't get a good feel for it. I think it's a wonderful place for a wedding but it just wasn't 'us'.

4. Fox Hollow - From the moment we saw the outside of the Fox Hollow we knew it was the place for us. The grounds are beautiful. We met with Susan, and she wasn't very 'Salesman-like' which I liked just very matter of fact. She showed us the Winter Garden Pavilion and it was like heaven. FH loved the waterfall and I loved the ceiling, but we didn't want to make a decision that day so we walked out without signing anything.

5. Crest Hollow Country Club - Again, since CHCC is so close to FH we called to see if we could drop by, they said we could. The lobby at CHCC is immense and I'm only having 100 or so people at my wedding and it just seemed so big. I LOVED the idea of the doorman in the tophat and the piano player. The price was comparable, but here's the thing... I didn't like the carpets. Really, that's it, the carpets. And the rooms confused me, I could only have it in this room at this time and then I felt the rooms were too big for my minimum. I have to say, Sharon (the BM we met with) was an absolute doll. I loved her. If I was going by BM I'd book with the CHCC, she was the one most in
tune to our needs.

After this we really loved the FH, but we wanted to see one more place just to be sure so we went to

6. Jericho Terrace - The little outside photo studio they have is nice, and the inside is beautiful, but a little ornate. We met with Chad... he was nice enough, but I felt he rushed us a little bit, and when I asked for a Saturday evening price he wouldn't even give it to me stating it was out of my price range. I HAD given him a price range -- but I asked him a question -- I felt he should answer it. He walked us through the kitchen which I thought was a nice touch, and their menu is wonderful, but again, with the the 3 or so wheelchairs I have at my wedding the bathrooms weren't as accessible as we would like. They are completely accessible, but my guests would have to have a bridal attendant bring them to the rest room when they needed to go, and my guests are too independent for that.

After that we hit wedding hall burnout, so we decided to make a decision based on the 6 we already visited. So, we went back to the FH just to make sure and we fell in love all over again... signed the contract that day.

Everyone's right, you'll KNOW when you've found the right RH. If you don't feel that way, try looking at one more place. We did a completely analytical comparison of all halls with spreadsheets and price charts and pictures and a pro and con list... and Fox Hollow has everything we are looking for.

we only went to three place and we knocked one out right away. we knew we didnt want to go to too many places because we didnt want to get too confused to so many choices. we loved both places so it came down to what each offerered for the price.

I saw pretty much the same places but, a few more. I booked at The Riviera and it was the forth place we had seen. Everytime we went to another RH we kept saying the Riviera was the one. We did go back and forth with JT but, Riviera gaves us the best deal and it was all that we wanted.
Maybe look at a few more places, I think that will help.

I agree with everyone else. You will definitely know when you've found the right place because you will literally have dreams about it and visions of your wedding day there. Maybe the second visit will put things more into perspective for you and FH. At least you're not making an impulsive decision. Don't worry, your dream RH is out there waiting for you, good luck!

Re: going to metropolitain for a 2nd time...

i just looked at the Thatched Cottage today and really really like it. Now as i've said before, I am a picky person and man, this was beautiful!!! It's on the water (harbor) and has a beautiful garden. I've heard mixed reviews about the food so i set up a tasting for next week.

My only drawback, i had a 1:00 appointment and was kept waiting about 40 minutes and I could not see cocktail room b/c a party was going on.

My suggestion, keep looking. It's almost a process of elimination for me. i'm even going to one tonight that i never wouldv'e thought looking at. I just want to look haha

Re: going to metropolitain for a 2nd time...

I'll be honest, I wasn't picky about the place. I narrowed it down between two and it came down to price. I didn't have one of those moments 'omg this it!' Sure, I loved Fox Hollow and thought it was gorgeous but I also thought 3 other places were amazing as well. But the price wasn't unforunately....

Chateau Briand was the last RH that i went too, i had been to 11 others before it and was about to have a nervous breakdown because fh and his family kept saying no to every single place i wanted.

From the moment i walked in and saw the staircase i was in love, and then when i go to see the cocktail hour room i was in even more love, and i absolutely love my ceremony and rh rooms. I love the whole art deco look of the place and finally fh and his parents said yes

we had an idea going in where we wanted to go, but I visited a LOT of halls, and I kept comparing them to Fox Hollow.

We loved the price, the selection, and I had been to 2 weddings there so I knew the food would be amazing. We loved the old world feel of it.

'09'er crashing...

I just went to one place. For me, it was a sentimental value to have the NRC as our RH. FH and I had our first date their at my sister's wedding. Plus, it was perfect for us. If you are second guessing the Metropolitan (Which I hear is a fabulous place and I know someone who got married there) then you need to look at more places. Good luck to you.

I looked at The Metropolitan. There were some things I really liked about it...like the fact that the whole place was ours and that there was a balcony overlooking the dance floor...but there was something about it that turned me off. I dont know. Maybe it wasn't fancy enough to have a wedding reception at?
