Well I am BUT I am getting a little concerned with the recent travel advisories warning of the crime in Mexico. Schools are telling students to avoid Cancun for springbreak , etc.
Any one changing their plans?

Re: Going to Mexico for your HM?
we are going to mexico, but most likely staying on-site at the resort.
eta: i work in law enforcement and i see some crazy things going on down there. i'm sure the touristy places are fine. but i personally wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the resort. but again, it's really just me overreacting since i see this stuff everyday.

I am a little concerned about it too. My jeweler even suggested we don't wear our real wedding rings. But its a little too late for me to change my plans since we leave on Sun. But we will prob stay on the resort as well.

I hate to burst your honeymoon bubbles but I will be honest. It is currently EXTREMELY dangerous down there. I would NOT go there right now.
The tourist areas are PARTICULARLY dangerous for Americans. People are getting kidnapped in taxi cabs and robbed. Driving anywhere at night has become extremely dangerous. American's drinks are being drugged for rape and kidnapping (and sold into sex slavery). ATM pins and credit cards are frequently highjacked. The biggest concern is the ongoing war between the criminal drug organizations.
I just told my friends who were planning of going there for our 30th birthdays, that we should make other arrangements.
You will be on your honeymoon so there is safety in having a male with you. But stick close to DH, if you go to bars outside the resorts don't leave your drinks unattended, and try to avoid taking taxi cabs.

Re: Going to Mexico for your HM?
something similar happened to someone i know. They were supposed to go to Jamaica and then all of a sudden the week before they were supposed to leave things started going crazy in Jamaica and tourists were getting attacked and infact they weren't even allowing tourists to enter Jamaica bc of how bad it got and they feared for the lives of tourists.
What happened though was since they couldnt even go to jamaica even if they wanted to, they did book with a TA and they did get insurance and the TA just booked them elsewhere only a few days before they were supposed to leave. The TA took care of it all, booked their airfare and hotel and they went to the bahamas instead. So just in case you do get scared and really are not comfortable, if you booked with a TA then call them ASAP and see what they can do, they will definitely book you elsewhere especially in this situation.
I dont want to say dont worry at all bc people should always be careful whenever they travel anywhere. So definitely keep an eye on whats going on and see what can be done for you.

Re: Going to Mexico for your HM?
when traveling outside the county you are ALWAYS taking a risk ... i went to europe last summer and the sick stories i heard about them kidnapping girls ect was crazy! But you have to be aware of the problem and be smart about the things you do. We do not plan on leaving the resort ... I would NEVER leave the resort to go to some bar or club. if we do leave the resort it will be with the resort on a tour. Also ... i heard MEXICO CITY is the problem area ... which we are staying away from. you just need to be smart, not get drunk, be by yourself, carry large amounts of money on you ect. im really not too worried

State Department in Washington which confirms that 'Travelers should totally avoid hailing Volkswagen Bug taxies and other cabs on the street.' Americans are also advised to be careful when ordering beverages in local nightclubs. Some establishments may contaminate or drug the drink. Americans should be cautious in using ATM cards and machines. Users are frequently targeted by criminals who have beaten victims to discover PIN numbers and then held victims until the next day to again use the card.
Luxury buses, like the one many tourists take to go from Mexico City to Acapulco, are frequently robbed. And driving anywhere at night is strongly discouraged. In some places, even daytime travel is dangerous. This is due to many robberies of tourists. Buy insurance before crossing into Mexico if you are going to drive, general insurance usually does not cover you out of the country. It also may help to keep in mind pickpockets are common. Keep your bags zipped and close to you.
just wanted to share ... this is what i read before i went to europe and ecuador ... just be aware and we will be with FH so it shouldnt be as bad as if we went on spring break with hot girls haha

Re: Going to Mexico for your HM?
The travel advisory is for people staying in a crossing through border towns. This is where most of the violent crime is taking place. So unless you are staying in Juarez or similar it's all good. Just use caution as you would when traveling anywhere.

I read travel articles like it's my job sister dear!
Here is more info from the state department. The advisory is for the US/Mexico border not tourist areas.

Thanks for adding the link. I was going to add it as well. Stay informed and be sure to check out the U.S. Dept of State Travel Alerts/ Warnings when planning your HM.
Im not changing my plans. Its not like i really veer off the resorts too much. There is high crime anywhere you go sometimes you just dont realize it while your relaxing on the beach. lol..
