I was wondering if any of you ladies still go to the gym. I was thinking about trying to get back into it… I’m about 25 weeks pregnant and seem to have some extra energy. I was thinking about doing some curls (with like 4lb dumbbells) and spending the majority of the time on the elliptical machine. I was wondering if anyone else was still working out… what exercises are you doing? But do you think I should speak with my doctor before doing anything?

Re: going to the gym...
If you haven't been exercising all along, you should def. speak w/ your OB before doing anything - especially anything strenuous.
I don't remember any extra energy at 25 weeks... or at all during my pg as a matter of fact!!

Re: going to the gym...
I used to work out regularaly before getting preganant and my doctor told me that continuing my routine would actually be beneficial for both me and the baby during labor and post partum.
In terms of aerobics, I was told nothing high impact and nothing jarring. Brisk walking on a treadmill, a slow pace on the Stairmaster or Elliptical were fine as long as I keep my heart rate at or below 140 bpm.
He actually encouraged weight training all parts of my body as long as I stay below 20 lbs.
But no strain at all in the abdominal region (i.e crunches, sit ups and the like) although I've heard mixed reviews on this from different sources.
Personally I'm in my 9th week and I'm so exhausted that I haven't set foot inside the gym for about 2 months, but I'm starting to feel more 'normal' lately and I'm hoping to start working out this week or next.

Re: going to the gym...
I was working out like a crazy woman before I was pregnant, but during the beginning of this pregnancy the smell of the gym was so repulsive to me that I stayed far, far away from that place.
I just don’t like the looks of my arms and legs… I’ve worked so hard to keep the muscle definition and I’ve noticed it leaving me and it makes me sad. So maybe I’ll give a call to her this afternoon regarding some exercises…
