Golem had his second set of shots at the vet today!
I'm so proud of my little boy! Craig just called and gave me the report on how Golem took his first set of shots at our vet, and he said he barely even flinched!
Also said that every person at East Meadow Animal Hospital is in love with our puppy and everyone wanted to give him kisses and pet him :) Craig even showed them how smart Golem is by doing the Paw and Sit commands in front of everyone, and Golem did it! :)
We also got some advice on why he keeps peeing in his crate - Dr. Gross said that because his water supply is only limited to his meals, that he's not learning how to control his bladder muscles and he's just peeing whenver he feels like it. He suggested we leave water out all the time (except in the crate) and let him drink as much as he possibly can. That will result in him learning how to hold it, since he'll have more water in his bladder now. We thought water at mealtimes only = controlled peeing. It makes sense that he'll never learn to control his bladder muscles if there's ony a small amount in there to begin with, so our thinking was backwards on this one - Dr. Gross said it defys logic, but it works! Sure enough - on the way home in the crate, Craig said Golem peed a little, but stopped once he realized that there was nothing there to soak it up, so it was just a tiny bit. This is promising, and I think it's really going to help with our confusion about the crate training we've been having!
I'm a very happy mommy right now, so I just wanted to share some of Golem's progress with all his LIW friends! Oh yeah, he now weighs a healthy 19.5 POUNDS!!!!
My little fatty! The other thing our vet recommended was that we start socilazing him with other dogs in a controlled environment - so now we need to look into setting up puppy play dates or soemthing like that. We're going to Petco tomorrow night, so we'll see how that goes! ![]()
