I think my beloved MacBook has died. It won't start up, only blue screens. Ive tried to boot up in safe mode and that won't work either. I'm beside myself. All my pictures, wedding files, they are all on there. If this thing is dead I'm going to lose them all.
Girls with macs - can I just bring my computer to a Mac store for them to look at or do I need to make an appointment? I work like literally next to the big Mac store in NYC so I kind of want to bring it there tomorrow. Can I do that?
I have no idea how I'm going to sleep tonight.

I don't have a mac book but I'd bring it with you and see if you can get to the store tomorrow. If the hard-drive is still in tact, they may be able to get all your info and transfer it to either a new book or an external hard drive. HTH...

OMG the same thing happened to me 2 months ago. i hope you have a back up harddrive.
make an appointment online (if you have another computer) at a mac store or just go in (you might have to wait). they replaced my harddrive and it ended up costing me nothing (if i didn't have a warranty it would've been line $168 bucks or something) - and yet costing me everything.
i lost every picture, document, etc. wiped clean...it was DEVASTATING. i'm sorry...i hope they can fix yours!!!!
ETA: apparently if you have stuff that is REALLY irreplaceable you can find an outside computer person/company attempt to get it off the bad HD. it is INCREDIBLY costly from what i understand.

Oh my. Well, thanks for telling me. I don't know what I'll do with myself if I lose my pictures. I have the apple protection plan, so I'm my worried about that, but I'll be beyond devastated if I lose my pictures. Ugghh.

i hope you can recover everything
i have a mac and i barely use it and it was brand spankin new (ok a little over a year old) when i had problems with it - shuts down randomly. i went to mac and they basically were charging an arm and a leg for it. i didn't do sh*t to that laptop and they wanted to send it of to 'maybe' fix it. they weren't even sure if they were going to be able to fix it but it was a lot so i said NO THANKS a-holes and now i just have to keep it plugged in at all times (even though my batttery is still at 94% capacity). i was really turned off by their customer service. ALSO DON'T BE LATE! i was 6 minutes late cuz i was stuck in traffic and i had to reschedule. i was so mad bc i drove from the south shore to the north shore only to have to do it again the next day and with no resolution for my laptop
i hope it works out for you! this reminds me to backup my stuff

EVITA- Gte this fixed.
This is exactly what happenned to my iBook a few years ago. I would just shut itself off and then I always had to keep it plugged in. Well one day it just died. The motherboard, or actually I forget what they call it in MAcs because it's basically the entire computer fried and it was ireeplacable. I actually still have the computer becayse they did say that when I buy another Mac they can MAYBE transfer the files over for a fee.
But seriously PLEASE get this fixed because it sounds exactly like the problem I was having before, and of course it started happenning literally a week after my apple care ran out.

Ughhhhhh that's awful!!! I would feel the same exact way--every picture I have every taken is on my dell. I would honestly be devastated.
I would def go to the mac store and see if they can recover the files.
Good luck!!

Re: Gonna lose it
Update: It's my hard drive. I'm going to lose EVERYTHING.
My only option is trying to rip the files using firewire. Thankfully FH has a matching macbook, so we MIGHT be able to do this. I bought the firewire cable and we are going to try it tonight. The only thing I really care about is my pictures, but it would be nice to get my guest list, program and table number files. Wish me luck, ladies! Regardless, my computer has apple protection so they'll give me a new hard drive for free. They also gave me a new battery for free, too. I have to say, the Apple people were SUPER nice. It's my fault for not backing up my stuff using time machine. I have a damn external hard drive and everything.

That sucks! The hard drive on my laptop gave out years ago and I lost so many pictures! I was so sad! I actually kept the dead hard drive around. LOL. Now I upload all my pics to shutterfly and make CD's of them after the year ends. This way at least my pics are safe!

Re: Gonna lose it
Oh no!!! I hope you are able to recover them tonight. I lost all my pictures and music a year or two ago when my computer crashed. Now I try to back everything up every month or so onto a hard drive. And I keep all my wedding stuff on a thumb drive so I can go back and forth to work with (I save the same files on my home computer, in case I lose the thumb drive)
