So here is my dilema - my RH really comfortably holds about 120 people (it can have up to 150 but tables are on the dance floor).
My parents have 65 people on their list of relatives (the majority of which, I have never met)!!! So I have already tried getting them to cut it down, its not working. They SWEAR that 40% of the people aren't going to come. But I am nervous that a few of them might.
So here is my idea: Buy 2 sets of response cards with 2 different RSVP dates. Send the first batch out a little early to extended relatives to see if they are yes or no. The second batch will go to family I know is coming and friends - if enough from the first batch said no, I can invite some friends with guests, and invite more friends/coworkers.
Do you think this will work?
Here is the timeline: Wedding date 2-23-08 Mail first batch middle of November First RSVP date 12-15-07 Mail second batch end of December Last RSVP date 1-26-08

It sounds like a good idea. I would just send the Nov. batch towards the end. It seems a little soon (3 months), but towards the end will be less than 3 months, but still give enough time for RSVPs.

Sounds good to me!!! I think it will work out great, and 3 months isn't too early at all to send out invites.

I think in theory it sounds good, but if I was an 'extended' guest and I found out I would feel hurt. Either you want them there or not....and that includes tables on the dance floor. I know this sounds harsh, but I had to cut my list A LOT and I also understand the feeling. I thought about the wedding and the people that HAD to be there and the rest were on a 1-2 system. 1- would love it and it was almost mandatory, and 2 would be nice but it won't change my mind about the day being better/worse. Immediate family and #1's won out and it was a small wedding with 32ppl.

MM I have to say this...we had a minimum of 70 and we had same issue with Fh's family wanting to invite everyone they know and SWORE that most wouldn't come. We ended inviting about 110 and they swore up and down we would have more than 80. Guess how many we have ladies?

I think it just depends on the people you are inviting. I was resistant at first to allow my parents to invite 10 more people and to even allow myself to invite four people. All and all at the very end, I decided fine I will invite them (more or less cause my parents said they would pay for anything over 140 people) In the end, we have only had 137 (our min is 130) so thank goodness we invited those few extra people.
