good/inexp restaurant for small surprise party??

Hey ladies, I need your help!! I am trying to have a surprise party for my fiance's 30th b-day, and I'm looking for a small restaurant to have maybe a buffet style meal, or perhaps hor deuvres (sp??) Does anyone know of a place in Nassau, preferably closer to Queens than Suffolk. I am asking cuz maybe some of you have used a place like this for a shower, engagement party, rehearsal dinner???? I'd appreciate any ideas!! Thanks so much! :) JOY

How about a brunch??

I highly recommended Harpers Restaurant in New Hyde Park...they have great sunday brunches. 516-352-9000. We had our engagement party there and they did an amazing job.

brunch is out, cuz I want to have it Sat..

It's a 30th b-day so I figured we are still young enough to hang out on Sat. night, right?!!! I was thinking more Sat. evening, early evening-ish. Thanks though...I appreciate your help!

We just used Alias Smith and Jones in Oceanside=--they were great---- food, service, ambience everything was perect--and their prices are reasonable--the best thing is you pay for the actual number the day of--regardless of what you tell them before hand-- and we had close to 90 people so this made a difference cause you never know who is going to cancel last minute Good luck Laura

We just had our engagement party at Austin's Steak and Ale house in Kew Gardens. It is very accessible by train, subway and car - and they did a FANTASTIC job. Their prices are VERY reasonable, and the waitstaff is great. We go there all the time for dinner because the food is so good. Their number is (718) 849-3939. Ask for Cookie or John, and tell them Janine and Joe sent you. If you want a casual fun atmosphere, this is the place to be.

Trinity Restaurant in Floral Park 516-358-5584. They have a smallish back room and you can have just apps if that's what your into & you can run a bar tab. It's a pub/restaurant & it's a nice casual place. And the staff is REALLY nice!
