My fiance and I plan on getting married in the winter (January/February) on a Saturday/Sunday day to save money and would love to know what you folks think is a good price to pay per person. We've been looking around at catering halls and the prices have varied somewhat, but it's around $60 per person plus tax and gratuities and they're charging $750 for the 'chapel'. Do you think that is a good deal? Do you think the catering halls will go any lower than that? We've looked at places like: Chateau Briand, Inn at New Hyde Park, Jericho Terrace, etc. In addition, are the gratuities usually 20%? Your knowledge/expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It totally depends on the hall. $60++ sounds about right for the halls you mentioned. You might be able to negotiate a little lower, don't know how much lower but it's worth a try.... Gratuity at 20% is the norm in Long Island.

Chateau La Mar gave a really good price for January. Fox Hollow too.

We didn't really ask around for January BUT you DEF have negotiation room with those months so don't hesitate to ask them!!! $60 sounds about right thought. 20% is the norm ~ every place we visited (6 or 7) charged that! Good luck w/ the search!!!!!!

Yes, DEF negoiate down. Thats where they start. Get them to throw in stuff for free too. They can also lower the ceremony fee. if they get a feel for you and youre trying to throw in all these extras like youre willing to throw all this money at them, they may not come down as much.

it depends on the hall i am getting married Feb 11,2012 and i am paying 52 per person for a Saturday night, For Verdis of Westbury. They are very reasonable and you def check them out. Mike is really great and 60 bucks is a really great price. Also i am having my ceremony there too .
