Which Greek isles are you looking at? I've been to Greece a million times!

I would imagine any travel agency would have brochures on Greek islands. I highly recommend Santorini & Mykonos for honeymoon....absolutely beautiful.

I'm not sure which islands - I am totally open to suggestions. I've read a little about Santorini & Mykanos..and a few others. Greece was my original choice for a HM destination...then we thought we'd just want to relax and not site see (there's no way I could go to Greece and NOT check out the Parthenon and such) so we switched it to Bora Bora. But I'm still hung up on Greece...

Long story short () ...any suggestions would be MOST appreciated!

Re: Good Sites or Brochures on Greece/Greek Isles

I've been to a lot of the more popular islands. Honestly, I know Santorini has a really great reputation but I found that it didn't compare to some of the other islands. Myconos has a much better nightlife and the beaches are way nicer than Santorini (IMO). Crete and Rhodes are both very beautiful and popular islands, but there's so much to see there that you might not want to go if you're not planning to sight see. I guess just to relax all day and go out at night, I would go to Myconos for the bulk of the time and then Santorini for a few days.
The islands of the Ionian sea (Zakinthos, Lefkada, Kerkira and Kefalonia) are all absolutely breathtaking. They are not as well-known which means they are quieter (but still touristy), but they are very different from the islands of the Aegean because they are very lush. The beaches there are also stunning.
FM me if you need more info. Also, do a search on Google by the island names and you should get lots of websites.

If you go to greece youwill definetley get to see the parthenon - it's about 45 minutes from the airport. You just need a one night stay in athens and you'll be fine!

I LOVE LEFKADA (and not just because I'm originally from there!) but the islands in the Ionian are BEAUTIFUL because they are mostly untouched! (but all of Greece's water is stunning - it's amazing how clean they all are)

My FI is from Crete and it is beautiful itself! Mykonos is definetley a better nightlife island but Rhodes and Santorini are more 'chill' islands.

How long are you planning to go for because that makes a lot of difference!

Thank you Demetra! I've typed: Greek Isles - into Google and get a bunch of stuff irrelevant to me. Now that I know some names - should be easier. Thank you so much!

PS - Is early September a good time to visit Greece? What's the weather like?

The weather is still warm - probably in the 90's! makes for great beach weather as opposed to 100's usually there

Thanks Olgaki! I would go for no less than 2 weeks. I've never taken a 2 week vacation!

I am not opposed to island hopping - staying in different islands over the course of 2 weeks...and staying in Athens for a night coming & going, I guess. Night life is good - but we really want to chill too...is it easy to island hop? Expensive?

Could we do a week in the Agean and a week in the Ionian? The pics of both are breathtaking. Love the blues against the white.

Def. check out Santorini!!!! It is very beautiful with the sunsets. For beaches I would hit the Ionian Islands like Corfu and Kefalonia.

I don't remember how expensive Island hopping is. But I think you can definetley do a week in each.

Your travel agent should be able to help. The one good thing is that Early Sept. is not as packed as the rest of the summer (but I wouldn't count on that to make it cheaper lol)

Re: Good Sites or Brochures on Greece/Greek Isles

Early September is a great time to visit Greece. It is not as touristy, the weather is still very warm and the beaches are at their warmest.

My BF recently honeymooned in Greece. She stayed in Rhodes and Crete. There are excellent resorts in both places. There are tons of things to see if you want, or you could just stay at the resort where nobody will bother you. I can find out the names of the resorts if you are interested.

I don't think Santorini or Mykonos are places where you can go to veg out and be alone with hubby. It really depends what you want... these islands are a little wilder. If that's what you are looking for, then definitely check them out. Santorini and Mykonos are like going to Cancun whereas the resorts on Crete (and to some extent in Rhodes) are more like going to Aruba or Los Cabos... Great beaches, lots of fun, but a different 'type' of environment.

I definetley agree with that! If you wannt Veg out do something other than Mykonos! But it might be nice for a one night stay maybe?

Re: Good Sites or Brochures on Greece/Greek Isles

All islands mentioned above are beautiful and well worth the trip. Note for Mykonos & Santorini...although there is more of a nightlife on these islands, you don't have to stay in or close to the town. Starwood Hotels has beautiful resorts right on the beach on each island. September is the perfect month to go. The weather is still warm and the most tourists will already be gone by then.

I totally forgot that!

I've also read about cruises around the island - you could do like a 10 day cruise of all the islands? I don't know if that was something you'd want to do?

Wow - you all are so great!!! Thank you so much!

Deby, yes - if you could send me that info, that would be great!!

I'm up for partying...but the bulk of the time I'd want to just veg or site see. My FH just wants to veg.

I'm not a big cruise fan - have never gone on one...don't really want to. I like land more than sea!

Thank you all again - you have loaded me up with so much info!!!

Re: Good Sites or Brochures on Greece/Greek Isles

Early Sept is a prefect time to go to Greece! The weather is still gorgeous and its less crowded. For two weeks, you could do about 2-3 isles easily. If the islands are close to one another you can easily travel from one to other by ferry which is cheap. If not, you'd have to fly which is a little pricier but not bad.
I think no matter where you go, you will have a great time. There is no such thing as a bad time in Greece - really!! Each island has its own beauty. Just think about what 'type' of environment you want to be in and what your personalities are. I always said that everyone needs to experience the lifestyle of Myconos at least once in their life! DH and I went a couple of years back and we had the time of our lives. Then we relaxed in Santorini (I can recommend a place here if you're interested).

But for gorgeous beaches, I would head for the Ionian isles or Crete. Just to clarify - I mentioned the island of Kerkira earlier, but the more popular name which I think Angela wrote is Corfu - you're better off searching for it under that name! I'm so jealous!!

Re: Good Sites or Brochures on Greece/Greek Isles

Here is the e-mail from my friend:

Crete - Knosos Royal Village - Aldemar Hotels
Aldemar

Rhodes - Atrium Palace - Resort
Atrium Palace

Both are a bit expensive, but well worth it. Also a good idea to rent a car.

Edited ... hopefully links work now.

I don't know why the atrium site is not working. It is the right site. You can see what it looks like here:
