What's your price range? If you really want to splurge there's Nobu.

Monster sushi is good....for a low key type place.
Ruby Foo's is good too but you pay more for the atmosphere.

Re: Good Sushi in Manhattan?
It really depends on where and that's the occasion? Sushi of Gari (78th and 1st) is wonderful but more in the price range of Nobu. I consider it a 'special occasion' place! Ko Sushi (70th and 2nd) is fantastic as well, very fresh, soft pieces and a lot to choose from. I went with my former roommate and it was about $25 each. An we both LOVE sushi! What area are you looking to go in? I could recommend amazing places in different areas. I live on the Upper East Side so those 2 places stick out in my mind right now.

Re: Good Sushi in Manhattan?
Sushi of Gari is really good, and not that expensive for rolls and such (chef's menu is ridiculously expensive)-- very small casual interior though.
Sushi Samba is very cool, great cocktails, funky sushi and a bit pricey. There are two in Manhattan - I have only been to the one in the West Village.
Umi is my personal favorite, although the inside is rather dingy. Very fresh, reasonable sushi. Its my neighborhood place and is on 2nd between 77th and 78th.
Sushi Hana is good too, so is Sushi Zen. There are several Harus and they are good too.
Bond Street is also really good sushi. But it is pricey. I think it is in the village. Very trendy.
