Got denied trying to get my Marriage License!!!
I left work early on Friday to get my marriage license before i went for my 2nd fitting...
We went to the Manhasset town hall and got denied. We called ahead of time and they told us we needed either a Drivers License or Passport AND ALSO either a Birth Certificate or Naturalization Papers, or a Baptismal Certificate.
My Fiance had his Drivers License and Naturalization Papers.
I had my Drivers License and Baptismal Certificate. My Baptismal Certificate was sent to me with my Catholic name written first followed by my legal first and last name. The woman at the town hall said it was not valid because my legal first name should be written first with my baptismal name in the middle and then my last name!! She said there were no exceptions and said she would hold the office open for 45 minutes (until 4pm) while we tried to get my birth certificate from the Mineola town hall since I was born at Winthrop hospital in Mineola. We tried to do it and when we found the Mineola town hall it was closed for Good Friday. I was so PISSED OFF!
Now I have to try to get the church to send me a new baptismal certificate with my name written differently. I think the next time around we'll go to a Queens or NYC town hall before work in the morning since neither of us can take days off before the wedding.....
