Hello ladies, Would anyone happen to know of any places where I can get my alterations for my wedding dress in Manhattan?
I bought my dress from Kleinfelds and their alterations are $600!!! That just sounds REALLY expensive to me.. so I'm thinking that I should go elsewhere with my dress. What do you girls think? is that too much?
Thanks!

OMG $600 thats insane!!! You might as well just buy another dress for 600 lol ... Yea, thats pretty high in my opinion. I think the place I'm going to get my dress from said something like $270 or something.... I could be wrong- but it was around that amount.
it is a bit much but honestly it Kleinfelds and people go there for a reason. i paid almost $400 for my alterations at a regular small shop but it was because my dress has a lot going on and the alterations are a lot of work. IMO, I would stay eith kleinfelds..this way if something goes wrong you are covered. Many other salons wont alter a dress you didnt buy from them because they dont want to be responsible in case something happens to it.

2 of my coworkers, who got their dresses from Kleinfeld, had great experiences with Kleinfeld and their alterations dept. Honestly I would just get them done there. What if you take your dress elsewhere and the screw it up? At least at Kleinfeld they are familiar with your dress and know the best way to tailor it. And if hell freezes over and there is an issue, they will make it right and make sure you're happy. Bridal gowns are very different from other gowns, many seamstresses and tailors could ruin the dress. You have enough time, just budget it carefully.
Good luck!

Re: Gown Alterations
i totally feel your pain. my place charges $575 for alterations. I saw an article in one of the million wedding magazines I get and there is a place that does alterations, restorations and all kinds of things to wedding gowns. not sure what their prices are. i was going to contact them to look into it:
I guess I'll give Kleinfelds a call and see whats what. When I had first bought my dress, my consultant Audrey told me that I should go elsewhere to get my alterations done b/c all I would need is a bustle and possibly a hem. She gave me a list of seamstresses.. but stupid me, lost the list.

That's a toughie. $600 for just a bustle and a hem is a little high. I bought my dress at Priscilla of Boston, and they're doing my alterations. I'm going to end up paying about $600, because they are doing a bustle, hem, and making me a very large bow with very long thick ribbons, and a sash. Just a bustle and hem should be no more than $400. But it's Kleinfeld and they are supposed to be amazing at this, and they know your dress well. You have time to look into other seamstresses, I wish I could suggest some. Maybe you could call Kleinfeld and ask you sales consultant for a few recommendations again. I'm sure she would understand. Good luck!

Re: Gown Alterations
I am a Kleinfeld's bride as well, and I am going to use them for alterations. I know it's a lot, but i trust them. I'd be very scared to go somewhere else. I don't think it's worth the couple of $100 in savings to take a chance!

ABSOLUTELY STAY WITH KLEINFELDS.. As others have said they know your dress and will guarantee it to fit perfectly or they will make good on it. Just be sure to ask for Josephine to be your fitter!! She is my DIL's cousin and is terrific!

I went to Ingrid's in Setauket. It's only $280 for mine.

I too am a Kleinfelds bride and although $600 is a lot, its definitely worth it in my opinion. They have been around for ages and have an amazing reputation especially in the alterations department. :0)

Re: Gown Alterations
I am using Wedding Atelier and alterations are capped at $450, so I also feel your pain. But I didn't hesitate to do it --I paid so much for the dress already, I want their seamstresses to do it. Plus the dress has lace and beading stuff, so I don't think alterations will be simple. I was between two sizes so we ordered up and they will have to alter it down a bit around the wast and the top, and I can see it being really tricky!
