gowns

how far in advance are you guys either looking or plan on buying your gown.

i fell in love with one last night and it takes about 4-6 months to come in and it is going to be discontinued soon.

plus...i brought my MOH and a BM with me...my whole family lives OOT and i'm dying to send an email to my mom with the pictures..but she has family visiting and i don't want to risk them seeing it. do you think its weird to send the pics to my dad to get his opinion?? or is he not supposed to see the gown until the wedding day too?

I think its only the groom who cannot see you or the dress before the wedding. I think its cute that your dad wants to see it. Ive heard that you should get your gown a year before your wedding to allow for it to come in and fittings, etc.

Re: gowns

i agree on the year but one of my bridesmaids warned me that i should wait because i may end up not liking it (!?!?) or my taste may change. her friend works at a high end bridal shop and gave her that advice as well when she got married.

this is the first time i've even tried on dresses and i do want to try on some maggie sottero dresses that i've picked out on her site first..but really the dress i love that i tried on last night is gorgeous!! and i may not have another chance to get it once they discontinue and stop ordering them.

Re: gowns

Yea thats a sticky situation. Ive tried on dresses already and I have a basic idea of what I want but I havent found 'the one' yet. My mom is making it for me and I thought it would be easier to find a dress and have her duplicate it, but I like this top on this dress with that bottom and that beading, etc. I have to get on it soon bc shes gonna need alot of time to do it.

I would say if you looove the dress thats gonna be discontinued, then why not order it??

I always look online for ideas as to what styles and designers I like...but I plan to look for dresses March-April.

I may be wierd but, the firs thing i got was my gown...2 years in advance I know im crazy! I can honestly say that i fell in love with it and I knew I couldnt get married in any other gown, I even had a dream about it. Once I tried it on the whole vision of my wedding came to me...so in some ways my dress is detemining the theme for the wedding I know CRAZY! Its all ivory dupani silk with some lace detail with a gold tint to it, its very vintage couture looking so im going with a total romance theme. Lots of red velvet roses and candels I say if you find a gown that you know you have to have it then get it, I didnt want to risk not being able to find the gown again and not being able to find a dress that could compare thats just my opinion

I'm too indecisive to buy so early...last year I had a dress for my graduation party and I endend up changing my mind THAT WEEK. I'm not tired at looking at dresses yet....and I know that once I buy a dress I need to stop looking because I can't afford to be a two dress bride.

Re: gowns

haha I know the only draw back is that I cant look anymore My dress was wayyyyy to expensive to risk the chance of me finding something else....so im done looking and im happy about it
PS. My best friend since kindergarten just got engaged and were both eachothers MOH so I will be able to look at gowns with her to feed my excitment of going gown shopping again

I already bought my dress too, I fell in love with it and was afraid that it would be discontinued. It is sad that I won't get to try anymore on, but I'm very excited about mine.

If you love it and think you won't change your mind, get it. Definitely send pictures to your mom and dad! I can't imagine having to get a dress without my mom . That must feel sad. I'm waiting until at least the summer to start looking because I'm too afraid I'll change my mind, but that's just me because I'm indecisive.

Re: gowns

i waited until this weekend to buy my dress - my wedding is in 11 months.......i dont think it would hurt to wait if you can..... you still have a long time before your wedding and you dont know what might change from now until a year from now.....i am still nervous that i might see something else that i like - even though i've been eyeing the dress i bought for a few months now.....

a lot of girls on the 08 boards got their gown almost 2 years before their wedding and ended up buying a second dress.....

i think you all have plenty of time (unless you are a jan or feb 09 bride) and should wait a little bit.....i wish i could have waited until 6 months before to decide BUT we all know it can take months for a dress to come in, so i went ahead and got mine now and it should be in by June or July and that is still awhile before my December wedding.
