Graduation gift-I need help!

Graduation gift-I need help!

My cousin's son just graduated from College and we are sending a $$gift.

I wrote the check out for $100 but I don't know if that's excessive. I'm a generous person, but I don't know. It's been a while since I gave a college graduation gift.

Any thoughts on the amount?

ETA..I am fairly close the the family although they live in Texas..I don't get to see them that much. (she's not the favorite cousin, but I'm trying not the let that cloud my judgement about the kid's accomplishments)

Re: Graduation gift

When I graduated from college (2 years ago) the majority of my monetary gifts were $50 or $100 (got some that were more and some less). I think that either one is fine - and if you are just mailing it and not going to a party or anything, I think $50 is generous enough

Personally, I would send 100. But that's me. I still think 50 would be very generous.

I think $50 or $100 would be fine, whatever you can spare. I've found people in other parts of the country give less, so we just gave $200 for a grad party of a cousin on LI, but that's LI...

I think that is a good amount - it is pretty much what I would give - plus you are out of town and not attending, she will probably be thrilled with whatever you give!

$100 is perfect....or you could five $75, and get your cousin a prepaid phone card, or a mini utility tool kit (my BF gave one to me when I went to college-scissors, screw driver with different heads, hammer, different wall hanging nails/bolts/hooks) I can't tell you how often I used it.

Don't know if this helps, but my cousin just graduated, and I bought a gift that was about $100 in value (a basket filled with cooking tools, he's going to culinary school!). This was my favorite cousin, and we are close.

My cousin just graduated from college, and I got her a gift that was about $60 (not cash). She LOVED it.
