grain alcohol

anyone know where to buy 'grain alcohol'???
we are trying to make a signature drink for our engagement party and my fh said we should get grain alcohol for that. he said its not sold in NY, but wasnt sure if that was true or not? anyone know???

it's illegal in some states, not sure about NYC.

Here is info on it, they say you can use Bacardi 151 in its place

I'm pretty sure it's illegal in NY. I actually got some when I was in Missouri though.

I've had it in Fl, but have never seen it in NY. I've only seen it used in things like Jungle Juice, never in cocktails.

FYI, that stuff is super-duper DUPER strong. Consider yourself forewarned =)

Vermont. The brand name is Everclear or Gem Clear.

That stuff is really potent. It is either 151 proof or 190 proof (75% or 95% pure alcohol).
We used to mix up a grain punch during my frat house days in college and I remember holding the hair of many girls as they puked their guts out after drinking this stuff. It got mixed with Kool-aid and you can't taste the alcohol, so the girls got really wasted. Not fun.

Be forewarned - your reception may turn into a frat party.

yeah i agree with the girls, just be careful especially if you have heavy drinkers and they drink too much of this. This is 190 proof, 95% alcohol, its stronger than 151 which let me tell you is real strong and doesn't take much to get wasted off of that. I had 151 when i was a teenager and my first time drinking and ended up in the hospital, didn't even have a lot of it lol, well shouldn't laugh bc it ended up being quite serious.

I still would suggest 151 over grain alcohol but even that, if the signature drink is sweet ppl get fooled and might have too much of it.

Its Everclear, I bring it back with me when I go to my aunt's house in KY, its definitely strong

Everclear - illegal in NY, but sold in NJ. We used to buy it in college alot...and, like other posters said - watch out - it is really strong. Your guests might not realize how strong it is... Also, not sure if your RH would serve an alcohol that is illegal if you are in NY...

yea thats what we were thinking of making, some drink already mixed in a cooler.
