Okay, I'm totally anal, but since I do this sort of thing for a living I have to say something:
I just got an invitation to a wedding and the 'requests the honor of your presence' line was wrong. It said
Together with their parents Brides parents names and Grooms parents names the honor of your presence is requested to celebrate the marrage of Bride and Groom
has anyone else gotten invites like this???

Re: grammar nazi
It's supposed to be spelled 'honour' and 'favour', right?
The phrase is backwards, but I'm not sure the grammar is incorrect. Is it?

Re: grammar nazi
I was an English major. Are you referring to the use of the 'passive voice'? And, is my punctuation correct? I may have been absent the day they taught that. :)

Re: grammar nazi
it should request the honor (honour) etc...
or the honor of your presence is requested when bride and groom become one, etc.

No, they should just scrap the whole thing and start over!!!
It doesn't make any sense at all!

Re: grammar nazi
It is poorly written and makes no grammatical or syntactical sense. I have two degrees on my wall and I still sit with an APA manual for publication(s) in order to do all of my reports and paperwork for work. As for the spelling of 'honour' and 'favour', using '-our' is a more formal preference, however they are both acceptable.

OMG--I miss my days of pouring over the APA manual trying to figure out how to format my psych thesis!
That invite makes NO sense at all! Didn't they anyone proofread it?

Whatsa matta Jax? Do you not LIKE the manual? Has it caused you grief? I had a professor in grad school who made us write all papers in APA format. If we didn't, we failed.
