Re: Grammar POLICE

Just to keep things simple, I recommend forgetting about the noun form of 'affect' and the verb form of 'effect,' which are sort of old-fashioned and infrequently used. To my mind, here's all you need to remember:

'Affect' is a verb. It's an action verb meaning 'to influence.'

'Effect' is a noun. It means 'result.'

Another hint: When you want to use 'an,' 'the,' 'one,' or 'these' in front of the problematic word, the version you want is 'effect.'

the effect
an effect
these effects
one effect

That's all!

Yeah, I agree with this on affect as a noun. But I see effect as a verb pretty frequently.
