Anyone ever had Grand Jury Duty? I work closely with one other woman, who just called to say she has Grand Jury Duty for the next month. That means that until after the HM I will be covering for her and trying to do my own job too, in addition to my mandatory LIW time and wedding stuff... Is it really 9-5 every day for a month? She tends to lie so I don't even know if I can believe her!

Re: Grand Jury Duty
I don't know the details but Grand Jury is much longer then regular jury duty.
I have heard mornings for a month or one day a week for a couple of months. I guess it varies by court house.

Re: Grand Jury Duty
i was on special grand jury. we were asked to come monday, wednesday, and friday, 2-5pm, for 6 months. a lot of the time, they would call the morning of and let us know they didn't need us that day. all in all if i add up all the hours, i think i missed about 21 days of work, about the equivalent of a month. i've heard that regular grand jury can be one month 9-5pm.

Re: Grand Jury Duty
My sister had a three-week stint (9-5 each day) at grand jury duty in Riverhead. She said it was really intense -- lots of creepy cases. Also, she didn't have to sit on a jury every day -- some days she just sat around waiting for something to happen.

Sorry I don't have better news for you! Maybe you won't get picked...
Thanks--it wasn't me, it is my co-worker whose job I now have to do to cover for her... I really wanted to take days off before the wedding and now I don't think they will approve them because neither of us will be here....

Re: Grand Jury Duty
A lot of people I have been hearing, including myself have been called for jury duty. I have heard that grand jury can take awhile. I am on standby call in this week.

Re: Grand Jury Duty
I served 2 years ago for Nassau. I was there M-Th from 9-4 and went to work on Friday. Mine lasted for 3 weeks. Then there was another group that just did Fridays 9-4 for 4 months.

One of the girls over here at work had Grand Jury. She was out for 4 weeks. It was a long time (she's our Payroll lady ) but everything got done with a lil help from everyone. I'm sure she's not lying

Re: Grand Jury Duty
My sister was called for Grand Jury duty. She was summoned for 6 months. The hours aren't necessarily all day every day, but the schedule changes week to week/day to day. The days when they are not in jury duty they are supposed to go to work.
This stinks!

Re: Grand Jury Duty
Does anyone know if they give you something saying the hours you were there every day? How does HR know if it really is the full day, or if someone just didn't go to work and got let out at 1?

A woman I work with did it last year. It was every Friday, 9-4 or something for 6 months

I don't know if they give you specific hours but they do you give a sheet of the days you were on duty
Sometimes you can't go to work if you get out early - I know I couldn't (reg. jury duty) it would affect my pay or something. Seems my company got my jury duty $ but I got a regular paycheck.
