I had this a few years ago. I had to sit thru 2 different times of this. They choose people who 'volunteer' to do the jury duty. The first time I was there for about an hour. The second time took longer for some reason & I was there ALL DAY had to have lunch out there & everything!! s u c k s badly But I didn't volunteer to do it so I'm good for the next I think 5more years (but a total of 8 if I remember correctly) HTH
edited bc it wouldnt let me spell s u c k s

Re: Grand Jury Duty?!
Thanks ! that's great that they seem to have only take volunteers. Was this for Grand Jury or just regular jury?

I believe it works the same way as regular jury duty. You show up and if they don't pick you then you can leave and won't be called again for another 8 years. I think they say 4 or more weeks to cover themselves and to let you know as thr possible juror what to expect.

Re: Grand Jury Duty?!
I served grand jury duty for 4 weeks a few years ago Its really not bad you dont have to ve there most days till 930 and usually you get 2 hrs for lunch and leave by 3 or earlier They say maybe more bc if a case is being heard (grand jury is all the inditements) they could go over if its a complicated case with a lot of evidence or witnesses I think we were each given a number taken in back then randomly picked They usually pick 2 grand jurys for riverhead and one for central islip This is done in riverhead It really wasnt bad and i did enjoy it

Re: Grand Jury Duty?!
I was on Grand Jury a few years back and did enjoy it. However, there were so many people that had excuses not to be there, everyone who was left was chosen for 2 panels... and it is for 4 weeks. Most days I was there 9-3. Some days if there were not enough cases, they would have only 1 panel come in and they would alternate which panel got to stay home. Yes it is a big chunk of time, but I learned a lot and didn't mind being there.

I originally had Jury duty & then postponed it & then I got Grand Jury. Also if she's never had it before you are allowed to postpone one time. It should say on the paper she received.
