Grandmother's Dress?

Grandmother's Dress?

How dressed up should a grandmother get for the wedding? My g-ma and I are very close. She just recently bought a dress for the wedding, and she actually sent it up to me, (she's in Florida) to see what i thought of it. I like it, but it's just a sun dress. it's knee length, beige, with sage green flowers on it. Very light, which I am sure will be comfortable for her, but considering it's a sat. nite wedding, I feel she should be a little more formal. I don't know. She wants my honest opinion. I do like it, but I feel she should dress more fancy. I am getting her a corsage and like I said we are very close. Can anyone help? What do g-ma's where to their grandchildrens weddings?

I think Grandmother dresses should be almost as formal as mothers dresses. But if she wants to stay comfortable then let her wear it!

My grandmother is wearing more of a suit. Flowy silk pants and silk jacket from Eileen Fischer.

I agree with Kris.

You can suggest to her that her dress is not formal enough but if this is the dress where she can be comfortable and can actually dance...hey, let her wear and enjoy the wedding!!

I agree that a grandmother should be quite dressed up so maybe you could mention that she gets another outfit. Maybe if you went shopping with her? So you can make sure she gets something nicer and it'll be easier for her than having to look on her own for something else!

I think she is a grandma.....and she should be able to wear whatever makes her comfortable and whatever she likes. She deserves it! I dont think we should control what our grandmothers wear.

my grandma is paying for most of my wedding so she's a huge part of it. she is getting very dressed up. my mom will be wearing black so I told my grandma to wear like a dark purple/plum. with a see through shawl type thing on over it. she's also getting her makeup done with everyone.

I would explain to her to dress more formal for a night time wedding. that's what I told my grandma. I still am going to make sure I am in Louisiana with her before she makes her purchase lol. I don't want her to overdo it, or not go formal enough.

Grandmas should wear a dress along the lines of MOB and MOG.

My Grandma wore a MOB style dress. She wanted one with a jacket tho to cover her arms. I'll try to find a pic.

Here's a pic, it doesn't look like I have one w/out her jacket.

I totally agree!! For my grandma, no rules apply. I'm just glad she's around to see me get married.

I agree, grandmothers dress as fancy as MOB... but your grandmother might feel more comfortable wearing what she chose... also, you mention she's from florida... not sure but I think they have a less formal wedding attire tradition there... maybe she might not know it's so formal up here??

I think grandmothers should be almost as dressy as MOB's. Some grandma's are always hot, and maybe she is afriad she will be too warm in something more extravagant... Could you send her suggestions or will she get offended?

Thank you all for your replies. I agree with all of you... I am torn between wanting her to look more formal, and her being comfortable. She is getting her make-up and hair done with me and my girls that day. I did speak to her last night, and in a nice way suggested that I don't think the dress is dressy enough. She said she is going to keep looking. Thanks again!

Re: Grandmother's Dress?

my grandmother's dress is almost as formal as my mother's dress, she saw what my mom ordered first before looking for hers so she could get an idea of what to look for. can you show her your mother's dress and guide her in a more formal direction?
