My mom offered to give me my grandmothers wedding ring who i was really close with so it would mean a lot to me and i would love it as my wedding band. but 1- i kinda want my own ring and 2- my e-ring is platnum and her band is yellow gold
Has anyone ever heard of having the ring dipped in platinum or some way of changing it a bit?
i wonder if it could even be done?

Re: Grandmothers wedding band?
Does it have diamonds? If it is a plain gold band it can be coated with a white gold or platinum, my mother had one of her's done. I think it is harder if it has diamonds though.
I have my grandmothers original wedding band (which is yellow gold) that I am using (and will probably have coated as well) but am also going to get my own wedding band. I am either going to switch them on and off or wear my grandmothers on my right hand.

Yea I would just go to a jewler and see what they can do. I think my mother got hers done at Gennaro Jewlers in Bellmore.

Be careful about getting your rings dipped. My sister had it done and regrets it now. She wears them all the time and they take a lot of abuse, so the new finish keeps wearing off.
I wore my grandma's ring on my right hand on my wedding day.

I will wear my Grandma's on my right hand at the reception.
I will also use it for practice the night of the rehersal

You could buy the band you would like and also use your grandmother's band. A lot of girls I know have two wedding bands-Usually one with diamonds and one that is plain that they wear if they are not wearing their e-ring.

There is no such thing as 'white gold' all white gold is yellow gold dipped in rodium so if the ring is plain they can certainly make it white

Re: Grandmothers wedding band?
actually ....nickle is alloyed into the yellow gold to make it white. Different metals are used for rose or green gold. The finished white is then dipped in rhodium much of the time.

I agree. I was going to suggest this. I have my diamond white gold band and another yellow gold band that I wear sometimes instead.

Re: Grandmothers wedding band?
i got married in my grandmother's wedding band (as did my mom and aunts) but have my own ring. My grandmother's band is wide, and hammered yellow gold. in a jewish wedding, the bands are supposed to be solid gold without holes or openings or stones. my wedding band has diamonds.
