I am not a GA, but all of the invites that I have seen like this use colored cardstock. The print is either flat using pantone colors or thermography.

i dont know what pantone or thermography are

ETS: so that means that this, most likely, cannot be done on jsut a regular printer??

I am not a GA either. I read somewhere that someone who made something similar actually used color for everything but the text. The text was the color of the cardstock.

I imagine that it would eat up your printer cartridge.

Thermography is raised lettering. Pantone, Inc. is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color. It's sort of a color reference guide..

Are you trying to make these yourself?

I made a sample of something similar for menus. I used white paper and purple ink --- purple background. It does take a lot of ink.

I did not try it with purple card stock and white/silver ink. Sorry.

Maybe stop by staples or some place and get a colored piece of cardstock (like .50) test it out at home?

This invite is probally made on a special press. This is an encore invite and i know its pricy cause i wanted it. An avg printer at its best wont be able to repoduce the feel and smoothiness of the invite. You can come close to it...but actually feeling this invite in person its so much different

I was thinking of this type of thing for our CD covers.... is anything similar possible with a regular printer?? (it doesnt have to be high quality paperstock as it will be in a CD case)

i would try to find a good copy of that picture and then use the blank part as part of the background.....
if u give me more info, i will try and put somthing together quick or try to regenerate that color in PhotoShop

fm if you like

ops, almost forgot..as for the paper.. i would use a high glossy paper to give it a clean look
