While I can't tell you 100% what the gratituty is for, every place I've gone has quoted me one, with them all being 20 or 21%.

the gratuity is for the waitstaff. That's how they pay their salaries pretty much. Waitstaff at catering halls is high then normal waitressing jobs bc they don't always get tipped, so they work the tip into the price at the very start.

The catering hall automatically adds a grauity to your bill in the same way that a restaurant would if you had a party of 8 or more. It is basically a tip, but I worked in the catering business for a while and the waiter and attendents usually don't see that money. It is up to you if you want to give an additional tip to those working on you wedding.

so the tips on the day of are extra...who exactly do u have to tip, the banquet manager, maitre d and bridal attendant?? anyone else?

I don't think you tip the banquet manager. I think it's the matire d and bridal attendant. Then you also have to tip your vendors.

You tip the matre'd 2-3$ pp, not $4, unless he REALLY earned it. And the bridal attendant. The banquet manager is basically a salesman and doesn't get tipped. You also tip the floral and cake delivery people and dj/band and photographers...lol Dontcha just love it!

As FH always says 'everything on this safari costs twice as much as expected' (forgot what movie its from)
