Grease fire- please watch - safety

Grease fire- please watch - safety

At the Fire Fighting Training school they would demonstrate this with a deep fat fryer set on the fire field. An instructor would don a fire suit and using an 8 oz cup at the end of a 10 foot pole toss water onto the grease fire. The results got the attention of the students. The water, being heavier than the oil, sinks to the bottom where
it instantly becomes superheated. The explosive force of the steam blows the burning oil up and out. On the open field, it became a thirty foot high fireball that resembled a nuclear blast. Inside the confines of a kitchen, the fire ball hits the ceiling and fills the entire room.
Also, do not throw sugar or flour on a grease fire. One cup creates the explosive force of two sticks of dynamite.

I think I've heard you are just supposed to smother it so it can't get oxygen. Like put a lid over it or something.

i just feel like if anything like this happened that i would just run away or something . . . i cant wait until all the smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are installed in my new apt

i know its terrible but we never had anything like that in my house - my smoke alarms would go off every time my mom cooked so they were always taken down!

Didn't you watch the video?!

Cover it with a damp cloth. DONT throw water or powder, etc. over it.

But I know what you mean - I'd freak out, I'm sure. But hey, now ya know. So you don't have to run away!

Wow good to know.

Last year my FH hit our chandelier with the leaves from the table and it caught fire. Me being the idiot just kept yelling fire LOL. My mom went to get a cup of water--electical fire!??!?! We turned off the power and put baking powder on it. It was fine but having the entire fire dept in my house ready to knock down the wall was quite embarrassing.
My FH was mortified.

Oh wow, that is GREAT information because I know my first reaction would be to throw water on it....seems logical right. That video is sad at the ending with that woman, I'm guessing she's been victim to a grease fire
