Great....

Great....

So a while ago I posted that I had some pain in my back / belly and I had gone to the Doctor to find that I am allergic to alcohol... Well it seems that may be voided and that I may have gall stones. I know it's not serious but the thought of surgery scared the ever living crap out of me! I have to make an appointment for a sonogram which I will do first thing tomorrow. Then from there we shall see what the deal is. If I have gall stones, I have to get surgery right away which BLOWS because the wedding is less than 6 months away and this is the LAST thing I need right now. That and the fact that I can't work out for 4-6 weeks if I do need the surgery which means that I may gain weight.

Oh no I'm so sorry. I hope everything turns out ok at your Sono.

I don't think I have ever heard of an allergy to alcohol. Is it to all kinds? Or just wine based stuff with the sulfites?

Here is a big hug!

Re: Great....

i had my gaul bladder taken out lapricopically(sp?)
when i was 20...it's not that bad of a procedure, but it does take a while to heal from.

it will be ok and you won't feel the pain you get now at all after.
i found out i the stones from one day i felt like i was having a heart attack
they took it out that day. I went to stony brook they took very good care of me

I am so sorry you have to go through this. As lauren said if you are careful with what you eat after gall bladder surgery you won't necessarily gain weight. Hang in there

Thanks. Some people are allergic to alcohol- their bodies can't handle it I guess. I asked one of my relatives who is a nurse- she said it's not common but some people have this issue.

That's how I would have it done if it's needed. Doctor told me it's not terrible. My Mom had her gall bladder taken out in the 80's and has a huge scar and the recovery period was very long. He said I won't have to go through that. I have a question though- is it easy to gain weight once this procedure is done? My Mom put on a lot of weight after she had the surgery. My Doctor said you don't gain weight from it but I heard people do.

Re: Great....

i have a small scar in my belly button another small one about 3' above my belly button and 1 one off to the right side of that one.
Just make sure you clean the scars as they tell you to so you don't get a infection.

i didn't gain weight from it you just might have a harder time digesting some things.
i was a big girl to begin with i think i actually lost some weight after it.

if you have any questions or just wanna talk about it i'm here

Re: Great....

I had gallbladder surgery when I was 16! It was emergency surgery and I had to have it right away (like literally I went to the emergency room 2 times and then was in surgery!). It is scary, but you will feel so much better once the surgery is over! I was only in the hospital one night too.

Before the surgery I started to get back pains and HORRIBLE pains in my stomach (like it felt like someone was stabbing me and turning the knife!). I was so relieved once I had the surgery! If you have any questions or want any advice let me know! Best of luck to you! You will be fine!

Re: Great....

I had my gallbladder out in May....I have 4 tiny little scars...one is in my bellybutton which you hardly see...

The most pain I had after my surgery was my bellybutton....it was very sore but otherwise the doctor didn't have to stitch anything... he said the wounds would heal on their own (which they did) i just had to keep them very clean...

I had the surgery on a Thursday and went back to nursing clinicals on Sunday... the only things i couldn't do was bend down... (hurt to damn much) and pick up anything that weighed more then a pound or 2... that is to prevent a hernia from forming while you bellybutton is healing...

I can't stress how important that is because hernias can develop very quickly and who wants to go back into surgury right after you just had it !!!

I am a very bad judge of weight loss/gain because I actually spent a week in the hospital before the surgery because I developed pancreatitis when gallstones exploded out of my gallbladder and lodged into the valves of my pancreas ... i was unable to eat or drink anything for a week before the surgery so my pancreas could pretty much shut down to reduce the swelling to let me have surgery so i ended up losing a bunch of weight...

after the surgery i hardly ate anything for a few days but after about i week i was back to normal so I ended up only gaining back a few lbs.

Sorry its sooo long... hope it helps !!!

Re: Great....

NOO that stinks!!!! But try and think that the sooner (if you have to do it) you do it, the sooner you will be able to be back on your feet and work out. You will watch what you eat during that time and you will be fine. You still have SIX months!! Yes, it will go quickly, but it still is a lot of time to get yourself better....

Lets cross our fingers that you dont have to get it done :)

Re: Great....

Guys, thanks for the kind thoughts. Hopefully it's not gall stones but my Doctor really thinks they are. I have to get the sonogram set up so we can seeeeee. Thanks again for the kind thoughts and putting me at ease. I am not as frightened as I was before.
