Option 1: Slow love song, then mid-way band starts playing a merengue song, then back to our original slow love song.
Option 2: Slow love song, slow love song ends and then band does something or says something, then the band starts to immediately play a merengue song which we will dance to.
FH and I were talking about this... (well I was mostly)...and at first he didn't like this idea at all. Then we compromised into potentially option 2. He wants to dance to 'our' song in it's entirety and he also thinks our band may not want to entertain this idea. I think they will!!
What do you ladies think? Do you like this idea? I want something different and fun. I don't wanna do what I've seen at every other wedding. I feel like this fits us sooooo well!! We're fun and love to dance.

i think this is a good idea, especially if it is personal to you and FH. I like option 2 - you can finish ur first dance, and at the time they usually ask everyone to join OR after they ask everyone to join they can play the merengue song!

YAY!!! I'm sooooo excited!! I really want to do something different and fun. I know that it's probably been done before, but no one in our family has ever done something like this so it'll be unique to all of our guests.
What's the best way to start the second song...I wanna choregraphy something with it for our guests to see?

except we will dance to our song, in its entirety and then break into salsa
i will require salsa lessons tho- FH is spanish and I am as white as can be lol and no one will ever expect that I could pull this off!

FH & I have a perfect idea of what we are doing for our enterance instead of doing something after the first dance.

I think it’s a fabulous idea!!! ... Keep in mind your band will definitely cater to your ideas given the fact that you’re paying them for their service ~ Little fact you can hint at your fiancée ;) I think option 2 is great - he still gets your slow love song and perhaps you can help convince your fiancée by suggesting a fade i.e. you dance to your 'traditional song' and the band can fade the ending into a merengue and maybe the bridal party/groomsmen come out onto the floor to get the party started - and you could for sure choreograph that ending so that they know when to come out. I like option 2! IMO I agree with your FH because I like the idea of being able to dance to your wntire song ..it makes the song more special

I like option #2. I actually saw someone do this in my videographer search. The couple did a choreographed dance to a nice slow song, then when it was done, they went right into a disco dance, which was also choreographed. It was cute, but if you are out there dancing a long time with everyone staring at you, it could get boring if it's not planned out!

My DJ told me that this is becoming more popular now. You get to have two songs. During the second one after a few minutes they ask the bridal party to join and then after a little bit all guests. This helps get them dancing.

Love option 1.... We are doing a traditional slow song. but we are doing 2.. I can;t imagine not dancing to a Spanish song for our first dance, but i have been in love with the song Amazed by Lonestar for years and years... so im going to have our DJ,,,, Mix the Spanish and english..
But def do the merengue... it will really get the party started. We are also having a Merengue Band

Option 1: great idea switiching songs half way. BUT to then again switch from fast to slow is going to be an awkward transition 2x's in a row.
Option 2: Typically after the first dance the DJ invites everyone back to their seats for the waiters to take the dinner order and the MOH and BM give their toasts.
I'd say, dance to a slow song, about a min. through then switch to the faster song and end it like that.

I agree completely with you. I think it would be nicer to just end on a high note. I also think that it would probably be better to get two songs that won't exceed 5 minutes.
