Greek Orthodox Brides Ques

I went to look for stefana to get an idea of how much they cost and to see the different styles. I noticed in the box with the stefana was a small ring, similar to the stefana. I asked the lady at the store what its for, but she wasn't greek and didn't know.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Also, what else do you need? My koubaro is a very nice guy, however single and needs some guidance.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Greek Orthodox Brides Ques

as for the ring that comes with the stefana, I do not know what it is for if anything. I recommend calling the church you are getting married at. I wouldn't be embarrassed to ask the priest or the church ladies that does the schdule. They know you have never been married before and don't know all the traditions and the meanings for them.
I have no shame with my priest, he baptized me and has been our priest for about 26-27 years. I call and ask probably what some would say are dumb questions but they explain it all to me.
I asked my priest about the koumbaro/a b/c my godparents are in the midst of a messy divorce and i did not know if that mattered. Anyway, traditionally the koubaro/a are supposed to be your godparents. It is there duty to supply the stefana and also the wedding favors. Nowadays, you are allowed to pick anyone to be it, but they must be an orthodox christian, you no longer have to ask your godparents. ALso the tradition of the koumbara/o buying the favors has also faded some due to the cost of favors.
The koumbara/o is supposed to be someone you turn to for guidance and support outside of your parents(which is supposed to be you godparents) but today that is no longer true.
That is more or less the purpost of them.
Talk to your preist he will explain everything to you.
WhichGreek church are you getting married in?
I am getting married at the GOC of the Ressurection in Brookville, formally of Glen Cove. Father Manny will be marrying us...I am so excited for my greek wedding!!!
