GREG MADDUX....ANYONE HAVE UPDATE?

But I think he's WAAY past his prime

Why do the Yankees love to get pitchers who are past their prime!!?? Can someone answer me this??

No Maddux news on espn.com yet. But there is a pretty hot A-rod/Jeter photo!

Like I said yesterday, I have mixed feelings about the Maddux possibility. Last year he repeatedly messed up in the first inning (giving up 3-4 runs) but then seemed fine until late in the game. Hard to say.

Because they are the only ones available. Pitchers are not easy to come by. And they did get Vasquez who is young and talented.

Personally I think Maddux would be a great addition. If they wanted to get a younger pitcher they would have to trade somebody good and I don't see that happening.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with this thread. Greg Maddux dates back to the Jurassiac era. His pitches are slow and very hittable. His ERA has gone waaaaay up over the last few years. his is not the Maddux of old. He is very disruptive in the clubhouse, starting fights with teammates, mascots and old ladies alike. He sells poison milk to school children and gave support to the English during the American Revolution...

Then again.. maybe he's PERFECT for the Yanks!

Yes he has slowed down, but he's still putting up some great numbers. He's not the Maddux of the early 90's but his numbers are still pretty good.

As for Maddux .. I haven't heard anything definite, unless I missed something. While I agree with Jenn that he has great numbers and is a terrific pitcher, I still stick with my original opinion that he's past his prime and that we don't really NEED him.

I don't disagree with the fact that to get young pitching we'd have to get rid of our best prospects.. its just that sometimes I hate that the Yankees go for the 'marquee names' instead of investing their $$ into some promising, young talent. That's what they have scouts for, ya know?

Do the Yankees need Maddux? Probably not.
Would he hurt the Yanks? Probably not.

Are the Yankees in a tough spot right now with all sorts of pressure on them? Yep.
Them just as much, if not more than the Red Sox. Because if they win, they were supposed to.. (some will say they bought it).. If they don't Steinbrenner goes nuts and starts acting like the a-hole he truly is.

If the Red Sox don't win, people chalk it up to the curse. But even that is starting to get a bit old in my opinion........ so .. what do we do?
