Grey's Anatomy?

I watched for the 1st time yesterday. Can someone give me a little background story?

we're kinda in the same boat here... lol

I'll try - I think the main story is about Meredith. She's a surgical resident, and her mother was a prominent surgeon at the same hospital years ago. Her mother is now stricken w/ Alzheimer's, and doesn't even know her own daughter.

Meredith had a relationship with Derrick (the hot Dr.), a.k.a. the surgical attending. It comes out that the Hot Dr. is actually MARRIED, but separated, and his wife shows up for a job at the hospital. (She's the redhead that was in the car at the beginning of last night's show.) Meredith tells Dr. Hottie that it's her, or the wife, and he goes back to his wife. The wife tells Hottie that he can no longer speak to Meredith.

Of course, there are a ton of side stories - I'm going to try and find a website for you!

Thanks - that was the major storyline I was wondering about. Cause they were all awkward and not talking, and I assumed something like that had happened. But then I couldn't figure out how she would have dated him in the first place since the wife works at the same hospital!
