Groom losing job
There has been a bit of sad news on the board this weekend along with all the happy.
I found out Friday night that my groom is going to be losing his job. The situation could be worse, it looks like he will get some sort of a buyout, including benefits for a time. There is also some chance he could be rehired in a different division.
While we knew cuts were coming, to be honest I thought he would be safe. He is the hardest working person I ever met, I have never seen anybody put their heart into their job like he does.
To make matters worse, about a fifth of the people who have RSVP'ed for the California reception are losing their jobs as well.
Besides the fact that we are now spending a bunch of money while the future is uncertain, I have other concerns as well.
I really don't want our NY reception on 7/26 to become all about my family saying' what are you gonna do?' to him. When you are unemployed the questions can get tiring really fast.
I am even a bit concerned our 9/20 west coast reception will also turn into a bit of a pity party. Many years ago I was part of a mass layoff, and any time you get together with your former co-workers it is time to vent.
We will be ok, and this may even put a welcome end to our bi-coastal lifestyle, but the timing of this is kind of distressing. I kind of think it is going to put a pall over the festivities.
