Can you please tell me what the average price of a groom's cake is? I have no idea what to expect. Thanks

Re: Groom's Cake
Not sure what the average cost is, but I was quoted $150-$200 for a cake that serves 60 and is shaped like Cooper, our dog sitting..LOL
(see dog on profile).

Re: Groom's Cake
I found this info to explain a groom's cake. I am having ours at our RD and surprising him with it!
Depending on your region, a groom?s cake may be a popular addition with your wedding cake. Though it is never necessary, it adds a nice touch. Typically, it is served as dessert at the wedding with the wedding cake, but it can also be served at the rehearsal dinner or as a late-night snack for the wedding party.
Traditionally, the groom?s cake is shaped or decorated to represent the groom?s favorite hobby, his occupation, or other interests. For this reason, it is a good idea to have one to show some individuality for the groom. For example, the cake could be shaped like a calculator if the groom is an accountant. Perhaps his college fraternity or alma mater can be displayed on the cake. Or your groom may prefer the simplicity of a plain cake.
Usually, groom?s cakes are supposed to be the 'opposite' of the wedding cake so that the two cakes contrast. For this reason many of them are dark cakes with dark icing. However, if there is a certain flavor your groom particularly enjoys (banana, lemon, etc.) you may prefer to reflect his tastes and create the cake in his favorite flavor, rather than the traditional chocolate. Very frequently, the cake has fruit on it (strawberries, grapes, etc.).
The other distinction that separates the groom?s cake from the wedding cake is that it is typically smaller and not as elaborate as the wedding cake. The cake is usually not more than two tiers high and is not decorated with many flowers or as much icing as the wedding cake. However, the cake can be made to be larger and more elaborate, depending on how many people you plan on serving and how you would like to decorate it.
If you plan to serve the groom?s cake at the wedding, it can be set alongside the wedding cake or it can be set on its own table to reflect the individuality of the cakes. It is usually served as a dessert item along with the wedding cake, or it can be boxed up and taken home with your guests. If you choose to present the groom?s cake at the rehearsal dinner, it can be served as the dessert item.
Usually the groom is involved in the planning of the groom?s cake, but you may choose to present it as a surprise at the rehearsal dinner or the wedding. In this case, you may want to put a special emphasis on reflecting your groom?s interest so that he enjoys his first look at the cake. He will certainly be surprised and touched that you took that time to reflect his style and personality with a special cake!

Coopersmom.....Thanks for the info!
If anyone is serving the groom's cake at the reception......... Am I right to assume that it should be big enough so that every guest can get a piece?

Re: Groom's Cake
I am contemplating doing a piano shaped groom's cake, and while I am not sure how large it will be, I am asuming there will be at least a small slice served with the wedding cake.
