Re: groom’s cake
Intended to be a gift from the bride to the groom, the groom's cake is usually dark (often chocolate or liquor-soaked) and designed with a nod towards what's traditionally considered 'masculine' (i.e., no rosettes in sight).
Although you do not need a groom’s cake, you just may want one. The groom's cake can serve many purposes, from dessert at the rehearsal dinner, to an alternative choice to the bride's cake at the wedding. It's customary for the groom's cake to be displayed next to the bride's cake, and later cut and put into boxes for guests to take home. And believe it or not, legend has it that single women are supposed to sleep with a slice under their pillow the same night they receive it -- and if they do, they will dream of their future husband.

Re: groom’s cake
I plan to do one, just because my FH LOVES ICE CREAM CAKE and I know there wont be on at the reception. NOw I jsut need to find a place that can design an ice cream cake to look a bit more special than carvel (even though I know FH would love Carvel cake right out of the box!)
But that liquor-soaked cake sounds great tooooooo

Re: groom’s cake
I really want to! My FH owns a hardwood flooring company so I was going to make his cake look like wood floors... my friend had one and her hubby loved it so much! There's a place in Brooklyn that does it. But I think it would be so funny to see his face when he saw a wood floor cake. I would make it a total surprise.

Re: groom’s cake
I want to since I would make it and have fun but he isnt a real sweets person so its not necessary. I plan on seeing how things go and if I have extra money then I will make him something. ... Probably to look like the cover of his favorite CD
