Groom's cake?

Where did you get your groom's cake? I don't want to spend a fortune (looking in queens or western nassau) I was thinking of a fire engine or a computer, but I'm leaning towards a fire engine....

There's a 'Good Bakeries?' thread around. That should help you. I imagine that most bakeries will do a groom's cake. I'm going to call a couple of them and ask. Good luck!

Re: Groom's cake?

I found this online

The bridal book says its an old
tradition that had died out, except
in the south, this century. It says
it was a smaller, denser, richer cake that was sometimes reserved to share with friends and family after the honeymoon. The book also
suggests that bits of the cake were
passed through the brides wedding
ring for luck and fertility. The
cookbook says its a dark, moist
fruitcake that is steamed. It is
undecorated except for a sprig of
fresh rosemary which symbolizes
remembrance. One tradition is that the
cake is cut into small squares which
are wrapped and which guests take home.
The guest then sleeps with the bit of
cake under their pillow and dreams of
the person they will marry. The second
is that it is preserved by regular
soakings with brandy until the first
anniversary.
