My SIL and brother are both in my wedding party as bridesmaid and groomsmen respectively. Recently I asked SIL what my brother may want for a groomsmen gift since I don't want to get him something he already has.
FH and I were gonna spend no more than 60 bucks each on our groomsmen gifts - a bottle of liquor and flask.
My brother doesn't drink and SIL hinted strongly that my brother won't need anything monogramed. She said when she got married, she gave her groomsmen $100.
Now, I don't know if that's what she expects me to give my brother. Personally, I won't feel right giving my brother a monetary gift, especially one that's larger in value than the gift I am giving the other groomsmen. Not to mention that I'm paying for my bro's tux rental, and not the other groomsmen tuxes! SIL also strongly hinted to me that it's customary in asian custom I pay for tuxes and bridesmaid dresses... :P
I'm asian, but my FH is not, what's a girl to do?

Re: Groomsmen Gift Dilemma. What's A Girl To Do?
You can only afford what you can afford. Whats 'customary' and what your SIL did isnt necessarily what you are able to do. I'm sure that your brother will understand that. IMO I dont think its right to give your brother more of a gift than the other groomsmen just because he's your brother--i think it might bother some of the other guys.
Get him something you think he'll like and use and spend only what you can truly afford. Your brother is probably thrilled to be in your bridal party to begin with and probably isnt expecting much of a gift -- I know I dont when I'm in a wedding. Its a gesture to show your appreciation, but it shouldnt break the bank.
