Groomsmen Vs Ushers, and a man of honor?

Groomsmen Vs Ushers, and a man of honor?

Hey everyone,

My FH and I are having a dilemma regarding having groomsmen and ushers. Have any of you had both? I really want to keep our bridal party small, and right now it is looking like I will have my brother (unconventional I know...) and my future sister in law on my side, and then my FH will have his two brothers on his side.

The problem is that both me and my FH have best friends, both males, that we want to include in the wedding, but not as groomsmen.

I've been getting a lot of comments on how having my brother on my side as my `man of honor` is strange so adding more men into the bridal party is the main reason why we want to stay away as labeling these guys as groomsmen and have them in the photos etc...

Has anyone else just had people in the wedding as ushers? To hand out programs and help people find their seats? If you did, did you have them dress in the bridal party attire or did they wear whatever they wanted? We would love to have them both be ushers and do a reading but we didn't know if that was weird. We don't want them in the 'bridal party' but we want them to be included somehow

Help!

It's not weird. None of it.

You're going to hear a lot of this on this site and it's probably an annoying phrase, but it's your wedding. Do whatever you want. It's no one else's business but you, FH and the people you choose to involve in the party.

That said, I don't see anything wrong with having ushers and groomsmen... but I wouldn't put them in tuxes if it's not a black tie wedding. If your groomsmen and Man of Honor are wearing tuxes, I'd have the ushers wear suits

Yes!

FH and I decided against a wedding party, and are only having my sister as my MOH, his brother as his BM, and his nephew as a ring bearer.

He has three friends as ushers, and my 3 friends as readers

My friend had a Maid of Honor AND a best man (of her own). It was really cute and what she wanted to do.

I was in a wedding years ago..where there were ushers..the groom had many good friends but had to draw the line somewhere with the number of groomsmen, yet still wanted those guys to have a special part in the wedding. I believe they were dressed similar but not idendtical to the groomsmen.

I'm having my male cousin as my Man of honor and my best friend as my Matron of honor, my FH is having his friend as BM. So it is not weird at all.
I also get those looks or comments. I say 'it's my wedding' and smile. I am so not a Bridezilla. I do have 3 brothers, but my cousin and I are much closer.
My MOH and I have been friends since we were 4 yrs old. So they fit.
I say don't worry what other people say, and oh boy, they will tell you how YOU should do YOUR wedding.
I say ignore them, and have fun!
