Group B strep test....

I got a positive result on my group B strep test, and I was wondering if anyone else had it, and how your baby was after birth? I'm so nervous now that the baby could get it, but I'm on medication so the doctor said that it wont be a problem for the baby and not to worry. My doctor said its common for pregnant woman to get, I'm just so nervous now!

I had it! I tested positive with my first born and all that was done was I was hooked up to antibiotics as soon as labor started and my baby was fine!!! Really, don't worry about it! It's not a big deal, it would be a big deal if you were not aware and passed it oto the baby. With my 2nd baby my test came back negative, but they treated me anyway and they will treat me with this current pregnancy as well as preventative measures. Everything will be fine, just remind all staff that you tested postive for Beta strep.

I tested negative but from what I've read you shouldn't worry too much. They give you antibiotics right away and then you won't pass it to the baby.

I'm sure it will be fine!!

I had it! No biggie - no effect on baby. My water broke and I had to pretty much go straight to the hospital to be hooked up to anti-biotics IV. Baby was fine! I think the chances are very rare that this will affect the baby - I think it is only in recent years they even started to test for it. Don't let it worry you.

My sister and a friend both had positive for Strep B. They had to do the same as posted above, have an IV with antibiotics while they were in labor. The antibiotics are a precaution even though the percentage of passing anything to the baby is very small.

Don't worry, everything will be just fine!
