group discount rates on flights

group discount rates on flights

has anyone ever gotten a group discount rate on flights from a travel agent...im trying to see if its better to get it online from one of those discounted sites or if you get a bigger discount if you book a group together or even if we book 2 separate trips at the same time if we'll get a real good discount. Mostly everyone will JUST have to pay for a flight bc i will pay for the suite on my own so not looking for flight+hotel combos for most ppl, well except me lol

has anyone booked a trip with a large group?

When my friend got married , her MOH booked a group BP trip and we all got a good price on the flight and luxury hotel. I ended up not going bec of Hurricane Katrini

I ALWAYS book with Orbitz

well i am paying for the suite all by myself, so all they'll need are flights. But she did it with a travel agent?

I did search all those sites to get all their prices and cheapoair.com came out to the cheapest, incase anybody needs flights for whatever its a good site. But i am just curious if i can get it for even less through a travel agent

you can actually call up the airlines yourself & they will give u a group rate....this avoids any fees a TA will charge u.

hmmm will getting it through the airlines be cheaper than getting it from one of those sites? also another problem is that some are going to take different airlines bc they have frequent flyers miles and stuff like that...basically the days are gonna be given to ppl and they can take any flight they want...ill call airlines though later on to see if it comes out cheaper than the sites but i dont even know how many would all go on the same airline but ill find out how many we need in order to get a group rate

ALSO for vegas you wont get ta charges, i remember from when i bought a trip to vegas for fh last year

thank you...i wanted to see if someone had an answer so i wouldnt be stuck calling up 10 places and being on the phone for hours lol, in case ppl wondered why i dont just call

I know American Airlines you can book group through them- they will give you a code & everyone in your party gets like 5% off whatever flight they pick- not sure what the restrictions are but we used it for my friend's wedding in vegas- here is the website

I'm not sure about the group rate.... I always use sidestep.com to search for flights.
PS- That's very generous of you to pay for the suite for the BP!!

ok thank you very much...i did just find flights for $267.41 for the time we want to go so i'll call american airlines later to see how much they'd give it to us for. I guess i can call more airlines to see what they'd give it to me for but i would do one day at a time or one a week after calling just 1 of them i wanna scream

I'm doing a weddign group rate through American Airlines.
It's really easy you can apply online (aa.com)or call them. They will give a discouted fare to anyone who books for your wedding (they just have to give the special code when booking). And they can travel anytime during the week prior through the week after the wedding. Taht way no one is pressured to take the same flight or travel on specific days.

HTH!

well its for the bachelorette party. Hmmm ill find out from everyone if they're gonna take specific airlines bc of frequent flier miles or something...i know one friend has a free ticket from jet blue so shes doing that. But if everyone else is fine with taking whatever flight ill call american airlines and see if its cheaper than a site. Do you remember how many ppl had to book to get the discount rate...i know some of them ask for a pretty high number

Thanks for explaining that...i was curious about the details.

One more question...do you need to have a certain number of people traveling for your wedding, or does the number not matter? I will have about 5 people total coming from out of state, maybe more, but the 5 are pretty definite.

this is what im wondering about...i remember going away with 8 people and they told us we didnt have enough to qualify for a discount rate and we all booked hotel and flights with the TA...i cant remember if it was 10 or more or an even higher number.
