I've asked my band NOT to play any kind of group dances (YMCA, Electric Slide, Chicken Dance, Macarena, etc... My FH and I don't really like them. Do you think they'll be missed or people will be glad not to be subjected to them?

Re: Group participation dances
My people LOVE THEM! Just LOVE THEM. My grandma is the first one on the floor for the Electric slide and the Cha-Cha stomp. So, I have to have them. Also cause the Electric Slide is Jamaican, like us. Oh well.
But I don't think non-Jamaicans will notice.

Re: Group participation dances
Funny thing... I went to a wedding in West Virginia and when I tell you EVERY song was a participation dance.... EVERY song was a participation dance!!!! My friend and I thought we were in Hell! I don't think they missed ONE participation song-- all the way down to the Hokey Pokey! So as you can tell they will be a BIG no-no at my wedding!

Re: Group participation dances
We only had the electric slide which would have been fine if the dj didn't carry it over to a second song.
But no one missed anything else.
Generally no one misses anything like that unless you point out that it's not there. We didn't do parents dances or the bouquet/garter toss and no one noticed until later.

Re: Group participation dances
The YMCa only because Dale was crowned Mr. Ymca at one of the last weddings we went to. So it is like 'his' song. Other than that I am not having them.

Re: Group participation dances
I am SOOOO in the minority here on this one apparently. FH and I LOOOOVE the Electric Slide and that stuff. We won't have too many, but one we will definitely have is Paradise By the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf. The way my friends and I line up and sing to each other it becomes a participation dance. And we are also into country music and line dancing, so we are thinking of doing a lesson at the wedding and have everybody dance one line dance with us. It should be fun.

Re: Group participation dances
Nope, not us. we are having some traditional Irish dances that involve partners but that is not the same.
