Re: growing up-what was your family's financial status
we were total welfare but my grandparents took my mom and i in and that really basically kept us from going on food stamps or living in the car. my mom worked but she cleaned houses. my dad was off and on from jobs and was always late wiht the measly child support and so it was hard to make ends meet. but my mom always had my weekly $1 allowance and if she went without coffee so she wouldn't let me down, well, she did. and for that, i am grateful to have been raised by my mom.
on the other hand, my grandparents live in a beautiful area and at one point, my aunt and uncle also lived iwth us and it was awesome. while my childhood was poor, it was a great life!

Re: growing up-what was your family's financial status
My mother and father always worked and made very good money. I went to a private school for 9 years. We always went on vacation every year and in the summer I went to Florida with my grandparents. Then again I was an only child...

sorry just curious, I watched Oprah yesterday with Ashton on it and was surprised how poor his family was, I would have never guessed, so just looking to get a general idea of how people grew up

I just say it is wird, b/c I honestly don't know. I was child. My family didn't share the finances with me.
I always felt it was average compared to my peers.

Re: growing up-what was your family's financial status
We were regular middle class and we lived in a regular middle class neighborhood.
We didn't struggle, but we lived well. We never had new cars or went on fancy vacations but we were able to have pretty much what we wanted within reason.

Re: growing up-what was your family's financial status
I was very much middle class. Maybe upper-middle...it was hard to tell b/c my dad was very cautious with money. We lived in a semi-attached house on the smaller side, but always went on wonderful vacations and had more than what we needed.

We were middle class. My mom did not work and we got things we wanted but not right away. We had to wait.

I'm with Tourist - I really don't know. I went to private school. We lived in Brooklyn, in a middle class neighborhood, but my parent's paid off their house in 8 years. When my dad lost his job in the stock market crash of 1987 things went south, but I was 16 by then.
