She says such stupid things - last night, I'm talking to her and she's like I want to get you lingerie for your first night (the wedding night) so pick something out, so I'm like ok thanks will do. I proceed to tell her that I really want her to get me the toasting flutes and knife set that I picked...She asks me how much it is, I tell her.. She then makes some sly remark saying that she doesnt know where I come from w/ my expensive taste - w/ my $20 towels....I turned around and imitated her sarcastic tone w/ how her and her side of the family is uhhh cheap (I used a different phrase). and then just laughed to keep it light. She laughed and was like no no.
It's just so annoying to know that ppl talk about what YOU pick for YOUR home...Just so you know I registered for various priced items - nothing that I (or my fh) thought were pricey at all.
On the other side of the coin, my fh's mother has been telling us to put more on the registry b/c their fam wants to buys us a lot of things...

Things just more these days...you don't have to have terribly expensive taste and towels and bedding are just super expensive for a nice set.

It is quite annoying. FMIL is always making suggestions and I just let it go out the other ear. There's no use in getting worked up over it. Since it's your mom why don't you tell her to please stop with that because it bothers you and this is stuff that you like. It doesn't have to be her taste.

you are probably facing alosing battle with your mom....
I would just ask FMIL to buy them for you. If its too expensive for mom or moms side....it seems like FMILs side is more than happy and willing ot buy them!

$20 is so not a lot for towels. I think mine are $35 on SALE (they are all bath sheets, but still).
this is your chance to get really nice stuff - I put $$ and $$$ sheets on my registry too... I would tell your mom to back off, I've done it with mine when she's over the top (though she's really trying to be helpful).

Don't worry about it... I feel like I've had some friction with my mom because of all the stressful wedding planning. It's hard when everyone had an opinion about everything, including your registry... your mom telling you things are too much and then FMIL telling you to register for more. I think it's a matter of stress and things will get better once you're married and there's less going on!

Yeah, I didnt think $20 per towel was a lot at all...then again, my mother has no clue...Ugh, she's such a jerkkkkk

Exactly, and I also agree with what the girls are saying.. you're SUPPOSED to register for the better stuff, the things you'll hopefully have forever.
Maybe some things are just out of your mom's families financial league (I think you mentioned that) and she gets upset because she or her family can't afford to get them for you? I wouldn't let this get you down. Just tell her if it's too much then don't buy it, but don't let her make you feel bad for having it on there!

Yeah, my mother really has some serious issues. It's sad, but I do avoid her....she's not thoughtful of my feelings, ever...or ne one else's for that matter. My family does NOT have any less money than fh's family - My family is just selfish and less giving than fh's family. It is what it is, I guess. At least my mother threw me a shower.....
