After working for 12 hours today, on my way home I get a call from FH that he's $1k overdrawn in his bank account! Apparently someone went online and bought $5500 worth of stuff with his debit card!! He already called the bank and tried to get them not to process it, but they told him he has to wait until the transaction is complete before they can do anything. Does this sound right to anyone who's gone through this??
Awesome timing for this to happen - they said it could take up to three weeks to get straightened out!!
Sorry for the vent. :(

OMG!! I'm sooo sorry that this happened to you guys! I worked at a bank for 4 years, so I know that there really isn't anything they can do until the transaction is completed, and it does take about 3 weeks..no way around that no matter who you know. LOL. They need to do soo much reasearch, then they contact the company that had the transaction and fight to get your money back. Alot of companies don't want to give the money back... so it takes some time. You should ask them if they do a temporary loan until the funds are in your account...I know about 2 years agoo we did that for a few cases. I hope that everything works out for you guys. Def close that account once this is all solved out and start over. Also, have them run your social security numbers through Chex Systems to make sure that they didn't get a hold of either of your socials in the process. FH had his social used as a fake name in another state... it's scarey. So, def. check it out. Best of luck....

Re: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
The same thing happened to be over the summer. They had to wait until all of the transactions went through in order to start the reimbursment process and it took about 4-6 weeks to get my money back.. I had to open a new checking account which was also annoying. They reverted all of the charges (late fees, overdraft fees etc) of course but makes sure he adds up EVERY CENT that was taken out because I almost got gipped out of a few bucks and I wanted every penny back. Make copies of everything and make sure the bank gives him copies of everything. You feel very violated and it is such a pain to change direct deposit and all of the the accounts that are used to pay bills online. I got my account hacked when I ordered Save the Dates online. The banks was supposed to deal with them but I don't think aynything ever came of it. I wish him a lot of luck and hope that it all works out, I feel his pain! EDIT* Also make sure he orders free credit reports. He is entitled to free ones in the case of fraud. I was able to get free ones from all three companies and thang God they were all OK.

Re: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
sorry to hear all this happened. DEF take note of every charge, fee, purchase etc so when it comes time to reimburse him, he gets every cent back.
Also, would be wise to review reports with all 3 credit agencies.
www.annualcreditreport.com (where you can get a copy free 1x every year from each agency) HTH
